Review from Mike L.
Amazingly historic hotel in the heart of downtown Dallas. Attended a conference here. While the conference itself was entertaining and informative, the facilities were at best "decent". No free wi-fi really made it difficult to do some work.
Coffee/catering was actually very good (for conference food).
If you're considering this place for a conference...please know all the amenities that your attendees will have...WI FI!!!!!! -

Booked through Priceline and got a great deal on this historic hotel. The only downside for me was lack of pool/spa. It is supposed to be historic, so the "old" feel did not bother me.
The room was spacious, beautiful views of downtown. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They offer free shuttle service in a Town Car, and the driver was so nice and helpful.
The room came equipped with an Ipod docking/charging station and flat screen tv and mini bar.
Very close to anything downtown and easy access to uptown via the complimentary driver. I did not dine in the restaurant, but heard rave reviews about it. I would stay there again....this is one of the view hotels in Dallas offering a nice stay at a reasonable rate. -

My husband and I booked The Adolphus Hotel upon the recommendation of a sweet girl on my flight into DFW. After reading an article about The Adolphus being one of the most romantic hotels in Dallas, we jumped at the chance to snag a sweet $99/night rate via http://Hotels.com.
Turns out, $99 is actually what I would be willing to pay for this hotel and here's why:
Yes, the hotel is a beautiful specimen of Dallas history... on the outside. The inside has seen its heyday. The guest rooms are vintage-inspired, decorated with replicas... and appear to be a fraction of the size they were when the hotel was built.
The bathroom has a shoddy tile patch job from when they removed the shower doors. And, there's some serious black mold action going on in there. The bed was comfy but not exactly 5-star. And the pillows were far from fluffy. In a hilarious turn of events, I actually fell through the canyon-sized crevice between the wall-mounted headboard and the mattress.
In all honesty. this place needs to decide what type of hotel it wants to be - slicing and dicing up rooms and filling them with faux finishes isn't on par with the French restaurant on-site. And when I'm expected to pay $26 for daily parking, I want nicer stuff inside my gift shop than chintzy name license plate magnets, shot glasses and dollar-store cowboy paraphernalia.
Just sayin. -

Rather enjoyed my stay here. I stayed at Adolphus when my friend/client and I went to Dallas for a business event. The room was decent sized. The bathroom, however, wasn't as spacious as I would have liked. Parking was rather expensive but I guess that is to be expected at a location like this. I did really enjoy the common spaces that showcased the historical aspects like older architecture, furniture, decor, etc.

The Adolphus is amazing. I stayed here all last week, and had my wedding here over the weekend, and it was all absolutely amazing. The staff is fantastic, the rooms are beautiful, and everything was just as perfect as it could have been. I highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

Review from Lauren H.
I recently stayed at the Adolphus for a business meeting in Dallas. I was a little annoyed at first that the hotel was so far from the Dallas Fort Worth airport - I mean I'm here for business not to explore downtown Dallas. That aside, it is a gorgeous old hotel and I now understand why they picked the location for our meetings.
The hotel has a ton of old world charm - from the keys lined up behind the check in counter to the beautiful lobby with lots of wood and warm fabrics, you feel like you've stepped into a different time.
The rooms themselves are quite large, although strangely laid out. I can only imagine how many times they have added on here, as it was a complete maze to get to my room. The bed is absolutely amazing - the pillows are super fluffy and the bed was just the right combo of soft and firm.
This hotel offers FREE (yes you heard it here, no cost) at&t wifi to all of its guests. They also have a very nice, clean workout room on the 15th floor with views outside, TV's on all the machines, weight machines, and exercise balls.
While I didn't eat at any of the restaurants on the premise, I did have the catering at my meetings which was excellent as well as a southwest salad from room service.
All in all this is a nice hotel. I probably wouldn't stay here just because - it's a little expensive and old fashioned for my taste (I prefer something more modern), but it was perfect for my business trip and I would definitely recommend it to my parents or others who might enjoy its charm! -

My wife and I very recently stayed here.
The lobby, restaurant and bar areas are absolutely beautiful. If you stay, take a moment to take in the amazing exterior facade. Stunning details in every direction. You will be hard pressed to find a more ornate facade in the entire city. If I were basing this review on the lobby and valet service it would have been 5 stars.
Fast forward to the room. It was nice, but it needed some maintenance and the house keeping left a bit to be desired. The AC/heating system was a bit noisy, as well, which made it a bit harder to sleep. Having said that, the wireless internet connection was free which is a plus. If I were reviewing the room and house keeping as a stand alone, they would get 3 stars.
Overall it was a nice stay and a good value for the money. We landed here via priceline....so I cannot argue the great price! -

My wife and I stayed here New Year's Eve in order to attend a wedding at the City Club. I simply was not impressed. The check-in was ridiculously long. When we arrived it was estimated at close to two hours, so we stashed our things and had dinner around the corner to wait for things to settle down. It still took 45 minutes to get valet parked (for $24 plus tip) and another half hour to check in. None of the staff was rude, but none of them were particularly nice or speedy either. Any hospitality I received was noticeably forced.
The rooms are, in a word, ugly. Not "historic", just old and mismatched. I didn't find the heating and cooling to work well, the walls are thin indeed, and I've slept in more comfortable beds at less expensive hotels.
My rating is probably closer to a 2.5 because the experience was not horrible, but I can't recommend it, and I certainly will not return. -
Review from Jeff D.
I stayed at the Adolphus during a training session for a new job. Very nice place that dates back to the earliest 20th century. Lots of dark wood and wrought iron. Also supposed to be haunted, though I didn't see or hear any ghosts.
Overall I have no complaints. Housekeeping did a good job keeping things clean and the complementary breakfast was good with a lot of variety. It's also close to the 6th Floor Museum, which is pretty much a mandatory stop for any Bostonian.
The Rodeo Bar and Grill was also surprisingly good for a hotel bar. Friendly bartenders and pretty decent food along with a nice mix of beers.
Lastly, the free WiFi was easy to connect to and extremely reliable. All told I was very pleased. -

With a few hiccups it's hard to give the Adolphus a solid 5 star rating. But I definitely enjoyed my quick trip to Dallas here.
After a long flight I was really looking forward to getting into my room and enjoying some well deserved rest. And while they apologized, it took more than 25 minutes to check in at 9pm on a Thursday. D'oh! The gal at the front desk was apologetic though and I am not sure it typically takes this long. The massive marble check-in counter was big enough for 3 separate lines but there was just one person working at the time.
I was upgraded to a huge suite that was nearly the size of my Seattle apartment. Excited to take a little tour, I couldn't believe how enormous the room was. Decked out with three chairs, two desks, a big TV, and a kingsized bed, I was in heaven! I popped into bed and slept straight through to the morning. It must have been one of the best night's sleep I'd had in ages. Peeling myself out of that bed was painful! Then I turned on the water in the shower and waited. And waited. As hard as it was to get out of that bed, it was NOT hard to get out of the shower. The water never got warm, making for a pretty miserable shower. One bonus was the heat lamp that helped me get warm after such a c-c-c-cold experience.
Overall it was a decent hotel but I think next time I'm in Dallas I might want to check out another spot. -
Review from Kevin N.
The Adolphus is pretty much the very definition of a mixed bag, and looks ready for a full scale renovation: mix and match carpeting, super bright florescent lighting leading the way through a maze of hallways, and old school fixtures. I've stayed in some pretty average (and a number of spot on terrific) hotels in the past few years, and this one unfortunately was pretty average.
On the plus side, the bed in my room was bonafide comfy, and the lounge looked ambient and terrific for an evening cocktail. Sadly, my schedule didn't permit such pursuits this go round, but maybe another time. Ultimately, maybe it's just coincidence, but my guess is that the hotel at least somewhat knows that they're treading water by virtue of the fact that I got a killer deal on the rooms I booked here (with no specials). So either they're regularly not full, or they're having a tough time competing with some of the posher nearby stops. Either way, my stay was fine - not memorable, but not the worst spot I've hit. Here's hoping those renovations happen one of these days, too, 'as there are a number of tweaks that I'm sure could restore this hotel to some former glory.Listed in: Hotels, Dallas, Dallas Hotels

My boyfriend and I stayed here while in Dallas for Thanksgiving and a friend's wedding. We loved calling The Adolphus home for almost a week. From the front desk staff, to the valets to the servers in their restaurants...everyone was very friendly.
Lobby and sitting areas throughout the hotel were beautifully decorated and very clean. There was a shoe shiner who wouldn't take no for an answer. :) Great guy who only worked on tips and knows how to shine a shoe.
Rooms - very large, comfortable bed, clean bathroom and free wifi. Basically everything you want in a hotel. They also had a small fridge and microwave.
Restaurants - The Bistro (offers breakfast and lunch), The Rodeo Bar & Grill (lunch & dinner - TVs and a large bar), The French Room (fine dining). I went to The Bistro and The Rodeo and enjoyed both very much. They also have afternoon tea you can be a part f. Not sure of the price, but the set up looked very nice.
Parking - $25/day, which is a bit high for me, but standard for most hotels in large cities. Valet guys were very fast and nice.
Prices - we used an AMEX discount and was able to secure a room for $109/night. GREAT DEAL! I'm sure they offer a bunch of deals like this. Just give them a call.
Bonus - Pet Friendly! They charge you $50 for the entire time your pet stays. There's also a small pet area about 2 blocks away.
Overall...I highly recommend The Adolphus if you're looking for a fabulous Dallas hotel. Two thumbs up! -

You had me at hello. Huge room and free wifi. Life was perfect. Or so I thought. That was until I tried to sleep. The room was stuffy and the air so dry I worke up choking. I had to call housekeeping to get my room cleaned because by 6:00 p.m. it still wasn't done. The worst? I reached for a towel after my shower and it was used --it had make up I don't wear on it and was damp.
Great location, people were pleasant enough, but I expect better. -
Review from Dennis S.
Perfect updated classic old hotel. Gigantic rooms, everything clean and modern in the room, with four different types of pillows to pick from. The highlight is the beautiful old lobby filled with leather chairs and sofas. Stylish all the way.
The only drawback was the poor selection of restaurants (one extremely upscale, one a phony bistro with a boring non-bistro menu, the third a bar with pub food). -

Classic hotel with an old-world feel. Husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and was pretty satisfied. Everything was clean and staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful.Only downside was that we could hear the next door neighbor's squeaky bed as they were making sexy time.
Overall, pretty good hotel at an excellent location. -

I stayed here last weekend. I wanted to stay somewhere near the Dallas Museum of Art. I got a really good deal, $99 for the night, through http://expedia.com. This place was so great. I know that the look is a little outdated, but the bed was so comfy, the check out time is 1PM, and their gym is really nice for a hotel. The only downside is that they charge you $26 for parking. I thought it would have been included in the cost of the room! I thought that was outrageous.

Just spent 3 nights here for my company's annual 200 person sales/client relations conference - and this place knocked it out of the ballpark.
This old-world, and supposedly haunted (google it for details), hotel was beautifully designed with dark woods and a warm/cozy feel.
The service - from the concierge, to the front desk, to the housekeepers - was attentive and genuine.
The bed was an evil temptress, coaxing me to stay well beyond my 7am wake up calls.
Conveniently located within one block to CVS and 7-11 as well as walking distance to many of the areas better restaurants and night spots.
The only knock I have is that because its an old hotel, the sound isn't always blocked as well as you would like. I was woken up a few times from room doors shutting down the hallway. -
Review from Paul T.
With its opulent French Baroque styling, the Adolphus evokes the glamour and elegance of the Gilded Age. The lobby is richly appointed with mahogany, luxurious furnishings, ornate chandeliers, and fine art. The older guest rooms are modest in comparison; all of the basics minus the elegance and sophistication.
I've stayed at the Adolphus on two occasions, about 10 nights in total. My lasting impression is that guest room cleanliness is not a priority. During my most recent stay, the same used hors d'oeuvre toothpick conspicuously laid on the bathroom floor for the entire week. I don't know how many prior occupants may have basked in its presence, but I wasn't about to touch it.

Austin, TX
This is such a cute, and quaint hotel. Not small, but I definitely got an old timey vibe from it.
The valet can be a little hectic, but what can ya do? Once inside, every one was dressed in cowboy attire (it was a Friday and State Fair weekend), thought that was cute and funny. Really loved the guy with the major chops going on. Super awesome. All staff was nice and friendly.
Our room was pretty good. Having traveled to various hotels and chains, the beds were by far the best for matresses not being advertised as sold in a bed store. (Westin has the best by far, but their's you can buy in a store). The room was an ample size. My only complaint, the bathroom. The put in small stand alone sink counters. Not very big in some rooms, this in mainly an issue for us ladies with the hair and makeup. We have a lot of people staying here, so we got to see 5 different styles of rooms. Not all rooms are the same, especially since it's such an old hotel. But nothing really worth complaining. The elevators are a strange size as well, but again, these were fashioned during a different time.
The hotel feels really grand, but the front desk can be a bit crazy, but again nothing you don't see in any bigger city hotel.
If you like an older, less cookie cutter place to stay when in Dallas, I highly recommend here. Staff is great, they were always ready to assist. Good 'ol Texas hospitality. (and I'm a Texan so maybe that says a lot). Have stayed here twice, and look forward to doing it again.
Oh, and if you look this place up, you'll see info on the 'ghost' on the 19th floor. We did try to ghost hunt, and 2 people in our group had a room on that floor. We didn't see nuthin'. Oh well, guess we'll leave that to the professionals. FYI: No weird or freaky vibe in this place, slept well and when anything happened 'weird' we just chocked it up to the ghostly guests. ;) Really more fun than spooky. -

The Adolphus definitely has old world charm. It's stately looking inside and out and we had great service throughout our stay.
That includes them sending up not one, but two bottles of wine to our room. They found a wonderful babysitter for us that has worked for the hotel for 28 years. We were very comfortable with her and, indeed, with our entire stay. It is in a quiet part of downtown Dallas, but within walking distance to the Dart line, nice shopping and many nice restaurants. The restaurant connected to the hotel was a lot of fun to have a cocktail and watch more football before our dinner out on Saturday night. BTW, we were there for Texas/ou weekend. Though my team lost, our stay was a lot of fun. I will definitely stay at the Adolphus again next October or whenever I need to stay in the downtown Dallas area. -

Got a decent deal price wise on http://hotels.com otherwise totally out of the budget my boyfriend and I have. The hotel is gorgeous but it shows it's age with creaky beds, paper thin walls and soft water pressure. Also, we felt a lil out of place age wise. You are forced to valet ($24/day) and they only change sheets every other day (for 'conservation'). They do have a really late check out that we took advantage of. It's a great place to take pictures, walk around the area as a tourist but it's not somewhere we'll be back. We just aren't their clientele.

The Adolphus definitely has charm and character that a place like the Magnolia does not, but the parking and false charges leave much to be desired. Free WiFi is a plus, but does not make up for poor service.
Don't even bother parking at the hotel's $24 per night rate.
Park at the DalPark garage 2 blocks away on Commerce. $8 max per weekday, $2 on weekends; and in addition plenty of meters available. The meters tend to fill up around 4PM as most are active 7 days/week from 7AM-6PM with a 2 hour max. -
Review from Travis W.
Staff was great, perfect downtown location and with the history this building has you can't go wrong. So I was here in a business trip and my coworker actually had a room on the 19th floor which I was told is supposed to be haunted (lucky him!). Apparently you can still here the band playing in a ballroom on that floor.
The old wood paneling and architecture is just so very appealing to me. Cool old school touches were abound and my favorite thing was the old time-y hotel keys hanging in the cubbyholes behind the front desk clerk like they would have used in the early 1900's.
Rooms were pretty standard, nothing to really shout to the hills about. It's the ambiance of the place that will bring me back :)Listed in: Hotel....Motel....Holiday Inn?

Okay, let me preface this all by saying that I've stayed at pretty much every 3 1/2 or 4 star hotel in downtown Dallas as my partner and I drive to Oklahoma to visit her family a few times a year, and the 9 hour drive is pretty brutal so we always stay overnight in Dallas on the way back to Austin. I can say with absolute certainty that my 2 star review here is generous. Even chain hotels in Dallas do better than the Adolphus.
First of all, we usually name our own price for a room on Priceline, but this time we had our rescue dog with separation anxiety with us as our usual pet sitter fell through, so we couldn't do that this time around since they don't let you specify pets/no pets before they charge your card. Since we were already going to have to pay $50 more than usual for the room, we figured we'd do it up fancy instead of trying to save a few bucks. We went into it thinking we'd get to stay at this cool old hotel with a good view of downtown, but alas, were we wrong.
The girl at the front desk was really rude, even worse than places we've stayed on the east coast where you expect them to be rude 'cause you're some out of town honky and they have better things to do. The place seemed pretty empty, but this woman seemed put out to be checking us in from the get go. When we bought the room on Priceline, it gave us the option of a room with a balcony, which was the box we checked. When we checked in, I asked to make sure it had a balcony, and the girl laughed and said "No, those rooms are more than $300 a night" and said it again TWO MORE TIMES when we told her that Priceline had given us that option for the price we paid. I didn't really care about the balcony, it would have been cool, but I was letting her know for her information since Priceline was providing potential customers with erroneous information. And then she gave us a room on the 13th (sorry, 14th, but we all know it's really the 13th) floor when they were at maybe 15% capacity. I've known numerous people who have worked at hotels and I know they do this just to be a jerk. We were probably the only people on that floor, I didn't see anyone else in the hallway the entire time.
The room was decent, I liked the Jan Van Eyck style fisheye mirrors they put in the rooms, but the view was awful. All we could see was the parking garage of the hotel next to us. Again, I think the front desk girl gave us that room because she knew it had a crappy view. Another thing I didn't care for was the mini-bar/fridge combo, so you can't just use the fridge without them holding money on your card. They also had no self serve ice or vending machines. We ordered ice from room service and it took at least 20 minutes, of course I tipped the guy but ice should be self serve, c'mon, it's the 21st century.
We tried to go to the bar, but it was closed even though we went during their posted hours. It was 8:30 or 9 pm. WTF?
The parking is valet only, $24 a night. Again, even on the east coast, it's still usually cheaper. We chose to park at a meter right in front of the hotel for the price of $2 instead. However, in Dallas the meters start at 7 am, so I had to get up at 6:45 to feed the meter. I went to the front desk to get some quarters and I stood there for 5 minutes and no one ever showed up. I walked across the street to Starbucks and got change there instead.
The only good thing they have going on is free internet. $117 for free internet and a bed is a total rip. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Hyatt or the La Meridien, I would choose them over this place any day, and walk away with $50+ to spare. -

We stayed at the Adolphus on our wedding night, and I used the room for my bridal suite too. The room was beautiful! I loved the old furniture and romantic lighting. I can confirm that another reviewer is correct about light bulbs needing replacing though...
The lobby is gorgeous too. It was absolutely ideal for doing pictures in my wedding gown with my family before we went to my wedding. And after the wedding, my new hubby and I went into the Bar at the very back of the lobby and had a couple of drinks (purchased by well-wishers in the bar). The bar was great and it was a lovely way to end such a happy day.
My only real complaint is that the valet service at the Adolphus is the worst in history. After the car being lost (yes, they *lost* our car!) and the valet desk worker telling me that I look like I could be my husband's sister (that's just f-ed up), we finally got our car 30 minutes after asking for it. We were late to the brunch my mother-in-law hosted for us, and the Adolphus did not apologize at all. The head bell hop (or whatever his title is) told me that he couldn't help with problems with the valet service because the hotel sold that service to an independent company. Well, the independent company SUCKS and reflects on the Adolphus. He should, at the very least, express condolence.
I had a wonderful time at the Adolphus, but I left with a bitter taste in my mouth. -

My family had our reunion here this past weekend.
This is one of the nicest hotels I have visited. I had a standard room with a king size poster bed. The Fish eye mirror over the bed was a nice touch. The room has an older feel to it that I appreciated. The bathroom was large and had a waterfall shower head. The towels were HUGE and, as a "Fat bottomed girl," I really appreciated being able to cover my whole self ;)
Some of my family had larger suites with couches etc. We also had a huge suite on the 10th floor which had a patio with chairs and tables and a pool table. The decor in that room was more art deco. The food that we had for dinner was delicious and we all had a very good time! -

All of the staff were completely welcoming when we arrived, and the lobby was absolutely gorgeous. We stayed in a business suite which had a nice lounge area and a sleeping area (an open floor plan, no door). I was expecting something nicer given the lobby, but it was a good quality room.
The hallways on the twelfth had a strange feel to them, I was expecting two little girls to pop out and ask me to play with them. Also the ATM in the hotel is down a strange green hallway, sort of out of the way from the rest of the hotel, and it had a blind corner, it made me a little nervous. Besides these minor defects, the hotel was great.
The Bistro was great for breakfast, and the Walt Garrison Rodeo Bar and Grill was great for a drink and later night dinner (we didn't make it to the French Room).
On a side note, we needed a dentist while we were on vacation, the staff recommended a dentist that worked out great for us. We left a tooth in Dallas, but we felt much better for it. Thanks all around to the staff at the Adolphus. -

The Adolphus reminds me of a middle age man, very well-groomed, carries a brown leather slightly worn down briefcase and drinks whiskey after having pork chop at a favorite upscale grill. Have no clue why that comparison comes to mind but let's just go with it. The hotel is very handsome with dark wood, "regal" furniture and even a courtesy hotel driver who insists that guests should never walk. Well, since I like to walk and have little appreciation for Neiman Marcus' neighboring location, I'll hold onto a star. Otherwise, rooms were spacious, showers very hot and satisfying, closets huge and generally a very clean and comfortable place. While I was a biz traveler, it also seems like a decent place for leisure travelers - with the JFK museum and a number of great restaurants nearby.
I would highly recommend. If you are a W lover, this is not your scene. -

Ok, this hotel has character, but most importantly, the employee's here are nice and seem to truly care about the traveller. The food options are nice, the staff is helpful and the rooms are nice.
Large flatscreen televisions and cordless phones in the rooms. The best part is the wireless internet, this place has some serious pipes and high speed! This gets them five stars right away.

What an amazing place! Beautiful architecture, old school decor and an awesomely friendly staff make this a must stay destination hotel.
No stranger to traveling both here and abroad, I've had the opportunity to stay at many motels and hotels, and I have to say the Adolphus Hotel is tied for first place on my list with the Magic Castle Hotel in Hollywood.
My boyfriend was able to get a fairly reasonable price through Expedia, on the Executive Suite, and on average it was more reasonable than the Sheraton or Marriott, as well as being more luxurious: Pillow top mattress, flat-screen TV, wireless internet, and a spacious bathroom.
The staff were ever so friendly and helpful, with a special thank you to Paul at the front desk for recommending a dentist for me. I can not speak of the valet service, as we were on foot, but everyone we encountered was spot on. You can tell the employees love what they do.
Of the three on site restaurants, we dined at two, the Bistro and Walt Garrison Rodeo Bar and Grill. The food was good, the service was excellent, and the decor and atmosphere for both were fun. I especially loved the teapots at the Bistro.
When we return to Dallas next year, I hope we can get a reservation for the Adolphus! -

Stayed here Dec 2008; I was in town to see the Dallas Cowboys vs NYC Giants (2nd to last game played at the old Texas Stadium). I booked it through http://expedia.com and got a great price.
Very elegant, modern deco, and very clean. The bed and pillows were soooo comfortable; had one of the best rest in a hotel. My room was very spacious and the bathroom was huge.
Nice bar in the lobby with a two piece jazz band. Great little cafe that serves great breakfast. I didn't try the French restaurant but it looked very elegant.
Free parking and very professional staff, just outstanding all around... -

I stayed at The Adolphus Hotel over the Thanksgiving holiday. Overall, this is a nice clean hotel with well appointed rooms. You will have no need for extra towels or extra pillows. The beds are very comfortable and the staff is accommodating. We lost our phone charger and the concierge had an extra that he gave us. Thank you, Larry.
Two complaints. The room did not have a full length mirror. Because of the initial missing phone charger, I called the front desk to ensure that a local phone call would not be ridiculous. I was told that the call was 54 cents. I did not say it was not local and they did not ask. I assumed that NOBODY or company pays for long distance charges anymore. Anyway, each call was between $5 and $8.
Overall, I would return. I slept beautifully. -

My fiancé and I were visiting from LA and stayed 2 nights.
First off, we got a great AAA discount rate, an upgrade when I mentioned we just got engaged and were allowed to check in early. I was thrilled.
Our room was in the corner with great views on the 11th floor. The hotel is obviously older so don't expect brand new furnishings etc but everything worked properly. My only gripes were that there wasn't a dresser and the TV was far away from the bed and I couldn't see it very well. But frankly, the charm of the place was just so delightful; I wasn't bothered by the small stuff.
One weird thing did happen though, we were cuddling in bed when we heard the key card being swiped and a huge group came barging in! We were all shocked but they went downstairs and took care it of it. I didn't feel like making a stink about it!
The rest of the hotel was so charming and old school, everyone was extremely helpful and polite. We enjoyed breakfast at The Bistro, a cocktail at The French Room Bar and took advantage of their free sedan rides. They will drive you up to 3 miles but won't pick you back up, it was great to get rides to sightseeing and dinner. Although, under normal temperature conditions, you wouldn't need the car, the location is within walking distance of restaurants, shopping, museums, etc but it was 100 degrees out and we couldn't walk very far in the heat!
Also, it was interesting to see old photos of The Adolphus at The 6th Floor Museum, the JFK motorcade passed right by on it on that infamous day.
Parking was pretty expensive though, $20 a day, so we parked down the street at Dalpark, no big deal since we walked every where.
So in conclusion, you get a lot of bang for your buck here, we would certainly recommend it!Listed in: My visit to Dallas, TX

Steeped in tradition - this hotel is historical!
Great downtown location - was close to everything.
High Tea was our highlight - its been years that I have partaken in such a social celebration and much enjoyed in great company. -

After years of hearing about this iconic place, I decided to book a junior suite for the weekend via Price Line. What a steal of a deal I got!
I was warmly greeted upon entry and my car was valeted for a pricey $24/night. The lobby is really beautiful, very Old World...dark wood, larger-than-life tapestries and paintings. Nice bar with dim lighting. It is grand!
My room was very sizable and clean albeit pretty dated. Although the room service was timely, the food was pretty bad. I'm a vegetarian so my options were really limited. It would compare to Denny's on an off-night.
The walls are paper thin. The second night, I woke up to a headboard banging against my wall. Ok, people are gettin' some nooky...that's cool. Fell back asleep then woke up at 5am to hear some chick on the other side getting a beat down. I called security and the perp either piped down or was removed. Disturbing.
Although they advertised WiFi in the rooms, I couldn't get a signal on my iTouch.
I booked for a 3rd night but I checked out early since I was over the whole experience and only lived 40 minutes away.
Overall, it wasn't an abysmal experience but I probably wouldn't stay there again.
*****and my room smelled like Peanut Butter****** -

I always feel special here. The staff is top notch, the place is spotlessly clean and you can feel the history. I always love it here. And if you look around, it much cheaper than other hotels of less quality.

Review from Nathan I.
Austin, TX
This is perhaps the most shocking--and undoubtedly the most unexpected--review I have ever written up to this point. When Jen L. selected this hotel for our weekend stay in Dallas, and it came highly recommended from my sophisticated friend Rhiannon, I assumed I'd be sitting here today, sweetly singing the praises of what is billed as "the grandest of Dallas luxury hotels". A breathless 5-star review was almost a foregone conclusion. Not. So. Much.
Check in: I arrived Friday at 3:00 PM on the dot, having driven in from Austin. I missed the valet round-a-bout, so I parked at a meter and walked in the side door that leads you up the stairs to an absolutely stunning lobby. The front desk clerk was friendly, I received our keys (Jen wouldn't be arriving until 11:00 that night), and I couldn't help but notice a bellman who looked like an Elvis impersonator. OK...so far, so good.
Valet: I popped a U-ey around the block and brought Kar to the entrance. I really wasn't sure who was running the show here, as both bellmen and valets were motioning and unloading bags. It was odd when nobody seemed to acknowledge my presence, and then seemed irritated that I was holding up traffic behind me. However, there was a flurry of movement ahead of me, and people all over the place, with no one giving me the go ahead to pull up; I didn't want to steam roll over anyone. Finally, I got out of the car as they unloaded my bags. The valet guy kept yelling (note: yelling) that he needed my keys, when I told him twice I left a valet key in the ignition. He kept demanding the keys he saw in my hand and I kept telling him I had left him a separate valet key. After all the rigmarole, they took my bags on a gurney and told me they would meet me upstairs. This was an awkward start, at best. (BTW, the valet staff was consistently brusque, rude, and surly all weekend. It was sort of a theme).
The Room: Comfortable beds and I loved the bulls eye mirrors above them. Flat screen TV, cute striped chairs, and a surprisingly gorgeous bathroom. Huge walk-in closet, and a desk. The walls are very thin, as our friends who joined us Saturday down the hall informed us they could hear their neighbors schtupping all night. I waited for my bags, but after 15 minutes, they still weren't brought up. I called downstairs to inquire, and they asked if my gurney had the two hanging bags, and a Louis Vuitton duffel. I said yes, and they said they were glad I called, because they had no idea what room they were supposed to go to. Even though I gave two people both the number and the name on the reservation. What would happen if I hadn't called? The bellman who came up was very sweet, but he asked why no one had given me a key to the mini-bar, and he discovered our phone was not working. I also asked for a bucket of ice (no machines, you have to dial for it), and he said he'd send one up immediately. It never came. They said there was a wedding they were dealing with. So?
Gym: I fit in a workout on the 15th floor gym; it's equipped with the usual treadmills, ellipticals, and weight machines. It said that towels and bottled water were provided, but they only had a water cooler with paper cups. I had to bring my own bottle. I know it's an old hotel, but there was no air convection, so even for someone who runs several times a week, after a short amount of time, I was sweating quite heavily.
Room Service: I ordered a second bucket of ice when Jen arrived, but it never came. She also discovered there was no hairdryer, even though the room should have had one. When we ordered a cheese plate off the late night menu after a brief night out, the woman said room service would have to call us back. Are you kidding me? 5 minutes later, she calls back, and laughs at Jen when we ordered the platter. We're not sure why she laughed in her face; we were polite, and the order was simple and straightforward. Room service told us they'd CALL US BACK. Who does that? Subsequent room service was better, but this incident really stood out.
Staff: When asked if we were enjoying our stay at the desk, Jen and I gave an honest answer that we weren't, and listed the above reasons. The woman said "I'm sorry to hear that"...and that was the end of the conversation. If we weren't due somewhere, I would have liked to have spoken with a manager. Not once did we see or hear from anyone about our issues with the service.
Physically, the place is gorgeous. The room, with some exceptions, was very comfortable. But the service was unequivocally piss-poor. I've received better treatment at a Holiday Inn. It's also an issue of training; I blame management for a lot of these pitfalls in service. I'm not sure if this was just an "off" weekend, but un-professionalism and a rather cavalier attitude about our bad experiences abounded. And frankly, that is absolutely unacceptable both as a paying customer, and when you're in the HOSPITALITY industry.
Completely stunned, I give it 1 1/2 stars.Listed in: Shackin' Up

Review from Arr H.
East Bay, CA
Once I realized I will be in Dallas for a business trip, I had wanted to stay at Jerry's Palace in Dallas. Turns out that was not an option so I chose the Adolphus instead. Upgrade!
The moment you stepped in, it just smells like a high class hotel. It has a grand feel to it and made me felt like I had "made" it in this cruel world...until the valet asked for the keys to my Kia so he can park that thing. It was just a rental car people, I swear! Speaking of valet, it cost $24 to park for the night...very steep indeed.
The room I had stayed in was a corner room and it was quite big - complete with a full living room plus plenty of space to spare. I had a wonderful night's sleep and enjoyed breakfast at the hotel cafe the next morning. It is also located right in downtown Dallas so it is very convenient for business folks.
Definitely the nicest hotel I've stayed for a business trip but I think that shall change soon...just don't tell my boss. Shh.
