One afternoon at work, my boss and my colleague were talking about plans for the weekend. My colleague said she wants to go to Whistler and stay the night. Upon looking at hotels to stay, she said she found The Adara and thought it looked really nice. My boss then said he absolutely loved The Adara and recommended it. That's when I made a mental note about the hotel.

Were they talking to me too? No. Were they talking right where I was? Yes. Was I eavesdropping? Possibly.

So when my aunt from out of town came to visit, we thought we'd bring her to Whistler. I remembered this and suggested it, and I was in charge of planning it. The check in is at 4 pm, and check out is at 11 am. Wtf. For a 1 night stay this ain't good. Anyway, called once to ask about prices. First guy I spoke to quoted us a cheaper price compared to when I called again. Again wtf. Requested to get a room as far away from the bar as possible (since we had light sleepers and it tends to get really loud as I read on Yelp). Request accommodated.

Quaint space and chic decor as we walked in the lobby. Loved it. We had a nice huge room; I was impressed with the modern decor. Loved what we got in the room: fridge, microwave, waterfall/rainfall style shower (although it was just effing hot water; there was barely any cold!), and PS3 (which my brothers completely hogged therefore preventing the rest of us from being able to watch TV. We had just 1 controller tho. Not such a huge deal but they wish they had another 1). There was also a fireplace, which we didn't use because its the middle of summer. Loved the complimentary robes as well.

There was something stuck in the air conditioning, which made it spew out a foul odour at times. But when we set the AC to cool, we didn't smell it at all. Bizarro. It looked like an apple or something. Anyway, that was gross.

The pool area was pretty nice; wasn't populated when my brother and I went for a swim so that was nice. A jacuzzi was also available so we were happy about that. Our hallway was SUPER loud and noisy in the evening. Tons of drunkies just partying their asses off not caring about anything in the world. BUT since we were at the corner of the hotel, once we walked inside our room we couldn't hear any of the yelling. Thank the lord.

Worst part about this is parking. $20 for valet. F that. We found parking somewhere else. But I guess its better than other hotels', like one I saw which charged $35 for their valet. F that to the 10th power. And the elevator! Oh my lord the bloody elevator. Much worse than the parking. There's only 1. I definitely think they could use another 1 especially since the one they currently have moves at a prehistoric pace.

Would I stay here again? I actually like this hotel despite the reviews. But I'd probably not. I'd want to stay at a different hotel to have a different experience. But if we manage to book a similar room (which is far away from the noise so we can all have our beauty rests) then I would have no objections about staying here again. 3.5/5 but I'm bumping it to 4/5

Pretty cute boutique hotel. The downside? Parking. I hate paying for parking. $20/night for parking, but hey it's Whistler and they have to make more money somehow.

The hotel is also close to everything, which is a plus.

There were really cute touches in this hotel like the statue heads of Ibex's and the cute log cabin type beds and cute pillows! Perfect for lounging and reading and watching TV on.

The staff were pretty friendly and the stay was pretty cheap. Not really much more to say..  I'd stay here again if I could get the same deal for sure.

I am hoping that the next time I stay in Whistler at almost $200 a night I'll be more impressed.

Pros - Location is perfect. Loft includes an outdoor deck. Receptionist was very sweet. Wifi worked like a charm.

Cons - Lobby bathroom was disgusting. Room was NOT clean (hair clumps in the shower, hairs on the sheets, dirty floors and carpets) which I found incredibly sad considering this is a hotel with cleaning staff.

My advice for the hotel: Don't spend $ on faux fur blankets and room deco when you clearly aren't paying your cleaning staff enough.

I've never been kicked out of a hotel before...and never anticipated that happening when we were fast asleep.  We'd been a little wasted in the village the day before when we booked a hotel through Garfinkel's pub crawl so I didn't get the details or any confirmation.

We missed the crawl in lieu of a kick ass hot tub at a nearby mansion and checked in a little late (10:30PM).  There was some confusion - our name wasn't on file - but the concierge knew of a Garfinkels' booking and gave us our room keys.

All was good until 3AM when there was a bang at the door and then the concierge entered.  He said we didn't have a booking and that the guests with the right reservation had arrived and wanted the room.  He called us liars and gave us 5 minutes to vacate the room before he'd call police.  I collected my wasted friends and hit the road.

Picking up my keys (taken by valet) he reiterated the threat.  I knew by this time, after calling my guy at Garfinkel's, that I was supposed to check into Aava, not Adara.  My mistake, but also the concierge's, and it was not handled gracefully...at all.  Kinda woulda loved to see the cops show...what was dude gonna say?  I checked them in and now changed my mind?

(PS.  If you wanna ditch the stiff service I'd recommend Aava / Ava hotel nearby..no probs and  we had a good laugh with the concierge about the whole situation.

PPS.  Nick at Garfinkel's was a great guy to deal with too.)

One star is too much - it deserves a zero.

To add insult to injury, I see that my previous review was deleted.  Not surprising.  I shared my truly terrible experience.

    Adara doesn't maintain their rooms.

While you can't change it, you can be forewarned that Adara is located above a Greek restaurant and beside a popular bar. Want to sleep before 3am. Try somewhere else.

Worst thing of all was Sarah - their front desk/valet employee who is awful awful, defensive without reasons I should be made responsible for, and she just doesn't care about guests.  Some hotel concerns are just what they are. You hope that the staff will be your saving grace.  Not so here.

Even if Yelp/Adara deletes my review again, I've posted one in many other online review sites.  I hope my review helps other travelers avoid the same bad experience.

nice decor & layout, nice staff, great location... but a serious lack of cleaning.
seems like they renovated for the 2010 olympics and haven't cleaned/maintained since.

green shower head, hair on every towel/sheet.  cigarette holes on the couch and sheets.  smelled of pets. elevator needed serious maintenance... and the pool & hot tub were both closed in july.  hmmm - perhaps they should sell the playstation in every room and do a deep clean?

You know your cute but really quirky girlfriend who is always just slightly off but has convinced herself she is rockin' the crocs? Yep, that's the Adara.

This place brags about being a boutique luxury hotel and is all sexy with the "unzipped" handle. But really it's understaffed by about one at all times.

The decor is Whistler cutting edge - edge of a tree stump. But the place means well. To the point of trying a little too hard - picture that same girlfriend rockin' the crocs AND a string of pearls.

Here's an example: you can't walk down the hall and get a bucket of ice. No. You've got to call the front desk. If they're not busy, they'll bring it right up.

The location, however, is perfect: as close to the center of activity in the village as you'd want to be without being in the center of the village. And the service, while a bit scattered is excellent. When the bellhop brought down our MANY bags, he offered to load them in the trunk. Yesssss!

Two asides: 1. We mentioned how swimming in Lost Lake was even colder than in the pool and they were all, "haa ha ha, you're funny. The pool's toasty warm!" Oops, the pool heater was broken! They had no idea. 2. On our first evening in the loft room my daughter pulled off her nickers and sat on the faux fur throw pillow on the sofa. When I asked why she did it she said she just wondered how it would feel. That made me wonder how many other hotel guests wondered the same thing and I didn't touch the throw pillows for the rest of our stay.

One thing I forgot to add to my last comment was that the girl who was checking out in front of me was waiting for the valet to bring up her car, but instead the girl who worked the front desk gave the customer her car keys and told her whee she can pick up her car.  Doesn't valet mean that your car is parked and then pulled out to the front for you?  Especially when you are paying $20 for it?

First of all the hotel is literally in the middle of everything!! So convenient i couldnt even believe i got that lucky especially for what I was paying.
The Hotel is neat and clean and everything looks brand new.
Staff is amazingly friendly and helpful
Easy checking in no issues / same checking out
They valet the car for you ($20 per day which is a bit much)
The rooms are extremely clean with contemporary decoration
Legit cable and free wireless internet which worked perfectly
Free coffee and tea every morning and the valet your skis/boards free
    Bed was incredibly comfortable
Fake fireplace was a little pointless and chessy but who cares
Hot tub is such a plus!!

All in all I was extremely satisfied especially when they upgraded us for free to a suite with a loft style bedroom!!
Im staying here every time i go

Location, location, location! In real estate and in hotel rooms it counts and the Adara definitely meets all the requirements of a great location. It is steps away from everything you need or want to access including lifts to both Whistler and Blackcomb, restaurants, shops, bars and services of all kinds. There really is no need for a vehicle once you are there, so you might want to consider not bringing your car - parking is $20 a day.

In terms of atmosphere, the hotel itself offers exactly what you'd expect from a boutique hotel in Whistler - west coast trendy at its best. Clean lines and lots of wood. The sparsity of  it could feel cold but somehow they manage to conjure a cozy feeling despite very modern furnishings. Fluffy faux fur throws and pillows adorn the bed and sofa, high thread count sheets envelope you when you snuggle into bed, and bright white thick towels greet you when you step out of the rain-shower-head shower. A television, cd player, microwave and well-stocked mini fridge mean you don't have to leave your toasty envrions if you don't want to.

I would not hesitate recommending this hotel but I do have a few warnings.
    1. If you are travelling with children it might matter to you that there are no in-room movies.
    2. Whislter is a bit of a party town and on our last night there - a Thursday - we were woken at 2:00 a.m. by people partying in the room next door. We knew then why the hotel provides ear plugs on the bedside table.
    3. You can order food to your room from a number or restaurants through Dine-In Whistler, but they do not start delivery until 4:00 p.m. and we weren't thrilled with the selection.

All in all we had a pretty positive experience. The staff are super friendly and despite being obvisouly overworked they always offered a smile and friendly word.

It seems an Aussie accent is a requirement for the staff. The interior is a mix between '70s and metro-chic. It works.. not sure how though. Weirdest item? An oxygen bottle in the bathroom.

The place gets all the basics right (cleanliness, great bed) and the location is perfect, less than 5 minute walk to the lifts. Would love to spend more time there next time...

Tacky decor aside, the Adara would be a more-than-adequate hotel in Whistler if it was clean. The location is really good and the beds are quite comfy.

We visited in low-low-season (late October) and paid an equally low rate which, as we found out, did not include housekeeping. The first room we were given had a generous handful of red hair sitting near the shower drain. I was not in there long enough to see if there were other problems, as we were transferred to another room which was inspected by the front-desk person before she gave us the keys. We didn't want to take the trouble of complaining while we were still there (especially since the room had been given a pass) but the toilet was dirty (pink scum at the bottom), there were coffee grounds on the bathroom floor, the back of the bathroom door had brown-reddish specks that were easy to remove with a wet cloth, there was broken glass in the fridge (!!!), and crud (also easily removed) around the sink drain hole. Really makes you wonder about the bed, which I didn't dare inspect more closely. (The bed, however, was truly comfortable.) When we came back mid-day, we didn't notice the room had been made at all.. until I found out that the toilet paper had been folded in that neat little triangle.

Upon checking out, I mentioned cleanliness issues to the front desk. The clerk told me "I will let housekeeping know." She did not offer an apology or even just a "oh sorry about that" of any sort.

Maybe they care a bit more about their clients during high season, but it still seems like bad business to just give such a bad image, even in low season for low-priced rooms. We won't go back - but we probably wouldn't have anyway, as the mirror nightstands are not quite our style.

I recently stayed at the Adara. I found a great online deal and then book at that price directly with the hotel. Other reviewers are right... This place is in the middle of everything. You can walk everywhere.  The rooms were very modern and clean. Very clean. The bed was great. I slept like a baby. Other people in the hotel in the morning complained that there was a lot of noise the night before that kept them awake. I didn't hear a thing. The free wifi worked perfectly. I took some photos of the room because I liked it so much. I will post them here. The nice bonus was the private balcony with a bistro table and two chairs that looked out at Whistler. Next time I'm in Whistler I'm staying here.
