Review from Sandy L.
Their pizza reminded me the best pizza i ever had in Cosmopolitan Las Vegas---relatively thin crispy crust, fresh ingredients on the top, super hot and fresh.
Also, this is the only restaurant i know on the eastside which can close for 2 weeks every August for vacation. Good for them!! -

Whoa! Acropolis know how to back the carb truck up and unload on you! They do Comfort food for sure. It's definitely Greek style Italian, as you can guess from the Greek name and the "pizza & pasta" that follows. I'm generally not a huge Greek/Italian fan because well, I am Italian, and I like my food the way Grandma always made it. However, I'm reviewing Acropolis to tell you that for warm, cheesy, carb loving goodness located directly across from the Kirkland Parkplace movie theatre you could do far worse.
I would never seek this place out, but when I came here before a show with friends and family I enjoyed it. Our table had a pizza, some people had the grinders, one person had a pasta. I was boring and had a salad, but definitley snuck a slice of pizza and garlic bread. The sauce was solid, the crust was nice, flavor was a-okay.
I can admit that if I was taken here and didn't know I had a carb issue, I would have ordered a grinder, eaten several slices, and probably taken down garlic bread. It looked good enough to justify the calories on a cold winter night. The only reason I didn't is because I knew that would be as good as taping it to my butt. If you don't have that issue, I recommend you try one of everything. Maybe sometime I will make it happen and grab a hot grinder before a film on the east side. I think you should too. -

I'm not sure I understand all the five-star reviews of this place. The food is not too bad, but I'm still not overly impressed after two visits. And, no, I did not expect any Greek food.
On our second visit, I tried a grinder (meatball), since that's one of big recommendations I kept reading. The bread was great and the meatballs and sauce were top-notch. Most meatball sandwiches are overstuffed with meatballs. This one is not, and that's OK, if a bit disappointing). She had pasta. This comes in a very generous portion and is suitably meaty and cheesy. Preceding both was salad, which (as we discovered on our first visit) appears to come out of a bag.
We will try again, since it is the closest diner to our house. It's pleasant and inexpensive. Everyone is touting the pizza, so we'll try one of those. On the other hand, my eye keeps landing on the Barbequed Spareribs & Spaghetti. What's that about? -

Tasty food, great service! A little on the pricey side, but worth a treat once in a while. Parking was surprisingly easy for the area, they have a lot on both sides of the restaurant.

I freaking love this place. Its got a home town feel and the best comfort food around. I always get a canadian bacon grinder. I think the secret ingredient is mayonnaise but trust me, you won't care when you are eating one. Service is always top notch with the friendliest servers. Pizza is also pretty good but go for the grinders!

My frist time having a grinder was here since it was recommended by many co-workers. It was really dry & I found myself constantly drinking water in between bites.
Small parking space & venue for how busy this place it.
Came here for lunch & all the booths were full.
Would I go back? Why not? I'd just order something different. -

Warning: Not for those watching their weight, cholesterol levels, sodium intake, fat intake, or anything of the like!
I've been working in Kirkland for almost 5 years now and I always pass this place -- it never occurred to me to stop there until I was on a Yelp hunt for a sandwich in the area during my lunch hour.
Per the recommendation of many Yelpers preceding me, I decided to go with the pepperoni grinder before I even left the office.
My experience with the service was brief but excellent, to say the least. The moment I walked in, I was greeted and while I stood to wait for my grinder I was asked by every person that walked by if I was helped to ensure I wasn't idling by while they whisked past me serving the steady lunch crowd.
I was shocked when I was handed my sandwich. This isn't your run-of-the-mill foot-long sandwich (i.e. Subway, Jimmy Johns). This thing is a monster! On my way back to the office, the smell of the sandwich was enough to get my tastebuds excited and by the time I took the first bite it was practically euphoric.
This has got to be the best way to get full for 7.50 +tax -- I could barely close in on the first half, let alone thinking about finishing the second however, all the better because I will have a fantastic leftover for dinner!
All I have left to say is...Wow.Listed in: Hangin' Around K-Town

I seriously can't believe I haven't reviewed this place considering I stare at their roof from my balcony!
I have been going to this place for year's and I still love them. The turkey grinder is the best! The service is usually pretty fast but it definitely gets busy.
The quality has remained consistent over the years too so there are never any surprises :) -

Love this place - good food, great service, and fun times.
Skip the garlic bread and get the Acropolis pizza! SO GOOD!
The iced mugs are freakin' awesome. -

I love Acropolis. My grandma and I go here fairly often, either to dine in or take out. The best thing about their food is that it's so simple. Service is fast, usually friendly, and the environment is relaxed.
The food makes great leftovers, and while it's not healthy, it's super filling. There's really nothing else that needs to be said about this place. It's delicious, fast, simple, and fairly inexpensive. What more could you want?Listed in: Food!

I have been going here ever since 1998, when my Grandma lived in downtown Kirkland. I have been getting the Canadian Bacon Grinder ever since. I recently became pregnant and all I ever want is a GRINDER!!! My poor husband. If we lived closer we would eat here every night. Love this place and the service is always amazing.
I call in my order and it's ready in 10 min! -

Acropolis serves serious comfort food. I've been eating at Acropolis (previously "Athens") for more than thirty years. This family owned restaurant is our favorite place for lunch and dinner. Not only are the staff and service great, the grinders are heavenly. And, the price is right .
The best menu item: Canadian baccon grinder. Over the decades, I've had may menu items. All have been good, but I crave the grinder. Lots of mayo and cheese with plenty of meat.
Easy to find and worth driving out of your way for a great meal. I love this place!! -

Best Grinders in the NW!
I grew up in New England eating fantastic Italian grinders and since leaving there in 1990 have never been able to find anything close. After 21 years of searching I finally found it!
Get the Ham and Cheese or Cold Cut, but hold the mayo and add the Greek dressing for East Coast style.
There are plenty of other great sandwich places in Seattle, but if you want an East coast style grinder, go here! -

I thought that Acropolis was great for take out. I would have given it five stars just based on the fact that the pizza was absolutely amazing when brought home and enjoyed with a movie and good company.
My better half and I decided we should grab a quick bite before I ventured off to class for the afternoon and Acropolis was close by. We sat down, ordered, and in a matter of minutes, our cheesy bread arrived. It was amazing! We saved half of it for left overs. About five minutes later, our large cheese pizza was brought to the table. It was soo cheesy and gooey and completely made my day. We were in and out and satisfied in no time.
We brought home half of the cheesy bread and about half of the large cheese pizza. It was no surprise that we polished it off before the night was through!! AMAZING pizza! No need to order extra cheese! It's all provided for you! Looking forward to my next experience with Acropolis. -

This is one of those perfect family restaurants. Everything is made from scratch including the blue cheese salad dressing. This is the only place I can take my loud kids and we all have a good time.
A nice bonus is that you get great sized portions for the price. A really nice contrast to the super expensive restaurants in Kirkland. -

Kirkland, WA
Good solid food and fine service. We stop here often for an early dinner and tonight was one of those times. Our server (Alime - maybe the owners daughter?) was the only server on the floor and handled the light traffic calmly and cheerfully. The prices are quite reasonable. We will continue to stop by.

Acropolis is a great place that has been the same for years. I've been eating grinders here for maybe 15 years and they've always been great! From the meatball, which is saucy and has tasty meatball, to the vegetarian, which got me through about 5 years of vegetarianism, they've all not let me down. They also serve a good Greek-style pizza!
This is one of those places that has a good "family-feel" to it. It feels homey and warm and the food is def comfort food, from the hot grinders dripping with oils and mayonnaise to the pastas and pizzas. The service is good and you'll not leave hungry. It's not fancy food. It's just tasty good food served right. I wish I still worked and/or lived nearer to here so I could pick up a grinder more often! -

I use food for more than nutritional sustenance. I'm what is often described as an "emotional eater." The best thing about Acropolis for me is that it doesn't matter what side of the emotional spectrum i'm on because every day, all day is the perfect day for one of their grinders. I was first introduced to their Pepperoni Grinder as a sophomore in high school, 1989. I'll never forget that experience. I remember my varsity soccer team had a night game in Bainbridge Island which is a long way from Kirkland. My teammate and I stopped by Acropolis to pick up a grinder for the trip. He suggested the Pepperoni Grinder and the rest is history. I've had a love affair with this place for the better part of the last 20 years. Same great grinders, same great service! Their pizza, pasta and salads are great as well. I hope Acropolis Pizza is around for as long as i'm alive.

We stumbled across this place a few years back when we were visiting Kirkland. We were staying in a hotel down in Renton and made the drive back to Kirkland in blizzard like weather just to eat here again.
Huge portions, great home style Italian & Greek plates. LOVED the Manicotti. Service was quick and very responsive.
The only thing I would change on the menu is to add an Italian Grinder to the list. A combo of Salami, Pepperoni, Ham with Provolone, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Italian dressing and marinara... oven roasted! This would be perfect. -

The roast beef grinder is the best sandwich in Kirland. It is also the 3rd best sandwich in the state in my humble opinion (after Paseo and Meconis). I have only had the roast beef and pepperoni grinders and I just can't order anything else when I go there it is too good.

Stop reading this right now. You don't want to go to this restaurant. It's salty, fatty, mayo covered, nitrate filled, and oh so orgasmically good. It's where you go when you want to feel bad about yourself. When you want a lunch bigger than your head. When you want your coworkers to wander down the hall asking who got what smells so good.
Plus the family that owns it are really cool. It's a great big Greek family who are friendly as all get out. Picture My Big Fat Greek wedding crossed with a giant pot of molten hot cheesy ravioli. The grinders are phenomenal (go for the pepperoni), and the pastas are great as long as they're cheese smothered (don't go for plain ol' spaghetti).
Seriously, avoid this at all costs. I just polished off a (full.. oy) grinder and I can barely lean forward to type this. It's better to pretend this review never existed.Listed in: The by no means definitive…

NYC Pizza snobs take note, this is Greek style pizza!! And these fine folks do it up rrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!!
A good buddy of mine brought Starch-boy, myself and his two sons here a few weekends ago, the place was packed at 2:25PM!! Parking wasn't too bad for this area of Kirkland, they have their own parking lot and there are spaces up the street, if you must. Believe me, it's worth the wait and hassle of finding a spot. This place is rock'n with locals so don't diss!
Pizza was the typical "Greek" style pizza, thicker bread-like crust, oiled up to perfection and baked just right. My fav were the GRINDERS! Nothing too fancy, just meat piled up with a bit of lettuce, tomato, sauce and a little ka-pow, served up fast on a French roll! My bud's youngest got a pasta dish, it was HUGE!! And man did it look and smell good! I can't rate the taste as he wasn't sharing!!!
A fine family run place, the waitresses serve it up fast with plenty of Aloha... I mean OPA! -

This place is exactly what I want it to be. Cheap, delicious, comfy and fairly quick. I don't love the pizza here but my boyfriend swears by it. The baked pastas are my favorite - the best being the manicotti which is TERRIBLY TASTY but beware - it's served piping hot from the oven and takes a while to cool. Because I am usually starving when I get here - I always get a little side salad to eat while I wait for the cheese in my pasta to be less molten. The dinerific salad with a side of ranch, the manicotti, some water and tea (or on some occasions a beer or cheap glass of red) make the perfect meal.
I do not recommend the garlic bread - it tastes like fake butter + garlic salt on too crisp toast - but other than that this place is a fabtastic joint for lunch or dinner. They are also really accommodating to groups and campers (sometimes we like to hang out for a while after we're done.)
Oh and don't be fooled by the name - the only Greek things I could find in this place was the baklava and some photos of the Acropolis by the cash register - so don't come expecting gyros and tzatziki. -

Its my tried and true lunch spot for a Grinder and a Beer. NEVER LET ME DOWN!!
And the Greek style pizza's are the best around, you won't find a better lunch spot for the price.
Also, get some Garlic bread from here if you are in a pinch and need some to take home for dinner.Listed in: Top Restaurants

Their grinders are a foot long for $6.95 which means you can feed a family for that much! Really...try it! Bring the family and watch them wrap their little hands on some oozy dinner. Try the garlic bread, its a French loaf halved, smothered in garlic butter and toasted till golden brown. Accompany this with some canneloni or some mannicotti. I loved the sizes and the whole robustness of the place. Although, I do agree that there might be a tad over-saltiness problem which although can be tasty can also be an issue if you're watching the BP. So, come here if you like salty, gooey, cheesy, home style Italian dishes and want to support the locals while chatting it up with the very friendly waitress and intermittently stuffing your face.
Good For: garlic bread, manicotti, meal after the game -

two words: TURKEY GRINDER.
so unbelievably naughty and fattening, but good lord, so good. If you are having a craving for eating something bad for you, but oh so good... go. The turkey grinder came highly recommended to me, and it so didn't disappoint. Friendly family owned restaurant... right now they are on vacation for like a month! D'oh!
UPDATE: does anyone know when it's re-opening from the vacation? I need one... stat. -

Review #3 (in my quest for the best Greek meal)
OK you would think that with a name like "Acropolis" this would have been a good choice for Greek food. I was so wrong. Sorry folks but the Greeks don't make good Pizza, the Italians do. And if you seek Greek food, you can do much better then this. Hell, I don't even recall if any Greek dishes even were on the menu. Greek salad does not count. -

Two words: Meatball Grinder.
Great sliced meatballs and the right amount of sauce, spices and cheese. Each one is two meals easily.
Great place to call ahead and get take-out. They always say "ten minutes" and it's always ready when you get there less than 10 minutes later.
I have to say I haven't tried the rest of the menu, including the pizza, but the grinders are delicious! -

I could eat here every day.
Family owned and run. Friendly, efficient staff. Laid back decor -- comfortable for me to stumble into in sweats and Crocs, as well as girls dressed up in their ho-heels.
And the FOOD. A-MA-ZING baked pasta and grinders. Delicious Greek-style pizza. Everything is fresh, with high-quality flavorful ingredients.
Excellent for take-out or eating in. Thank god for this place. -

Tried takeout pizza from here and was impressed (crust not too thin, not too doughy). Toppings were decent, might double up on mushrooms next time. Good hot wings. Can't wait to try their grinders and I think they might even have calzones on the menu too.

good old fashioned yummy food- a little on the unhealthy side but their lunch special is tasty and affordable- for a sit down. went with co-workers on Friday and they easily accomodated our smallish group early in the lunch hour. Service and food were good- nothing spectacular but good.
I can't imagine going there for a fancy dinner but for lunch it's great! Pizza looked very good.
Check it out!! -
Review from Dan S.
Bothell, WA
Is it great food? No, but it's pretty good and the portions are ginormous, so you'll go home satisfied.
They have kind of an odd little collection of entrees: pizza, various pastas, a few salads, and then ribs(?). Not just ribs, ribs with spaghetti or ribs with lasagna. Weird. Entrees come with a pretty decent salad and garlic bread. If I get the ribs combo I get 2 or 3 meals out of it, the portions are that big.
Oh and the sammiches! HUGE and pretty tasty. The half sandwich is the size of everyone else's full, so you've been warned.
It's fairly small and doesn't have what you would call a great atmosphere. If you're looking for something fancy or you're a food snob you should move on, but if you're just looking for a large tasty meal you're all set. -

San Francisco, CA
Count me in as another person who didn't know this place was light on the Greek food. When my supervisor at work said, "Hey, do you wanna go to Acropolis? Work's treating!" I was all excited at the prospect of Greek food. My stomach was totally geared up for pitas and hummus and grape leafs. I'd never been, or even driven by, so how could I have known?
Needless to say within a few minutes of arriving we were disabused of that notion, but by then it was too late. Our drinks order had been taken. Nothing for it but to go ahead and order.
The food is passable. The salad is ridiculous. (Sorry, I just have never liked iceberg lettuce salads.) The lasagna is tasty, although it will lie like a brick in your stomach for a few hours after. For what it is--ie. a pizza and pasta joint--it's okay. Nothing to write home about. Except for the name, they are utterly indistinguishable from any other pizza and pasta joint in the area.
The portion sizes are huge, incidentally. You could feed small villages with their grinders and pasta dishes. (I'm on portion control at the moment though--so, um, ginormous portions? Not as big a draw as they might be.)
The service is okay but could perhaps use a little work. The waitress messed up our order, and brought the wrong dish out for my coworker. I was left without a fork, and it took her a few moments to see about my water. However, once she noticed, she was very prompt at getting everything sorted out. (Everyone makes mistakes, so I'm inclined to not worry overmuch about it.)
I don't know if I would ever go back on my own, but for free, on the company dime, it was okay. A lot of people may like it more than I would--it's just not what I was hoping for. -

The Pizzas are Greek sytle which are good. The sandwiches are Ok too and the prices are good.
