A small cozy place that has a home feeling has pretty good Taiwanese meal.
Service: Not much, but then I didn't expect any for such a small restaurant.
Ambiance: Cozy. There are not too many seats and it's a really small place, but it kind of gives you a homey kind of vibe when you step inside
Menu: Taiwanese dishes are all listed on the board in Chinese and English. Pretty limited selection on the menu compared to other Taiwanese restaurants.
Food: Food is prepared on the spot for you. They have a very open kitchen so depending on where you sit you can pretty much see how they prepare the food for you.
Dishes are quite tasty and portions are good.
Value: Good. The prices are reasonable and the dishes are nice. -

Small cozy place for Taiwanese food. Very limited seating. Not for a larger group then four. Place is a bit run down. However food is decent. Some menu items won't be found else where. Entree and appie are fair in price. Dessert is delicious and home made but the prices is a bit high.
Beware, their last call for dinner is 8:30pm. Store open till 930 but only serve dessert after 8:30.
Over all, worth a try. -

Came here to see if Taiwan should maintain independence from China.
Parking is available in the back. I originally thought you could only park in 3 of the 12 or so spots (based on markings on the pavement), but there is a sign by the stairs to the back entrance that shows 9 or so spots available if you come outside business hours.
This place is seriously ghetto-looking and beaten up. The stairs are rickety, and the inside looks like it was built in the 1940s, right down to the rusty sink in the back filled with dirty dishes. But the place was filled with Taiwanese people, and I didn't see any cockroaches, so my worries went away.
This place is CRAMPED. The largest table is for 4 people, and you're sitting elbow to elbow. There are maybe 20 seats at most. There are a couple of chalkboards showing their specials, but this is not the most useful as several items were sold out. And this is within 2h of opening. More details a few paragraphs down.
I had their signature beef noodle soup. The beef chunks were unique. Most other places have short thick chunks (brisket) or thin slices, but the pieces here were right in between in terms of size and thickness. The soup had a nice balance without *too* much MSG (is there such a thing?). The noodles were a bit chewy.
The staff were friendly, and the place had a homely feel. I felt the staff really did care, which was nice.
For dessert, we wanted to try their macarons. The chalkboard showed 2 types - chocolate, and vanilla. Both were sold out. So my friend Vincent N. orders a lemon creme brulee. That was sold out too. Really?? We settled on the plain creme brulee. It was very well done for $6. Cracking the skin is always fun too. Hence the 4 stars instead of 3.
Overall, while I was satisfied with the food, I'm not sure I will be back. Other places such as Uncle Wang's, Beefy Beef, or No. 1 Beef Noodle (also run by Beefy Beef) come to mind. Best to try and see for yourself.Listed in: 2012 Cheap and Tasty

I have special feelings attach to this place and the owners. it's small and cozy, the owners are friendly and would take time to chat with you. It has an open kitchen that you can see everything that goes on in your plate, a trust worthy and high food quality place to dine at. If you ask what make a restaurant good and always bring you back? It's the trust and confident that you have with the people who's making your food! Their deserts are so good! As far as I know, they put a lot of care and effort with the food they make and the customer they serve, even the ingredient quality is something their customer admire about.

"The tendon factory is closed." is what the friendly man who sat me down and took my order told me when I ordered the beef tendon noodle soup. I didn't know tendons had their own factory. I can only imagine what it must look like. Perhaps it is good it is closed. But then again, it isn't - because I couldn't get my tendon craving satisfied!
This little Taiwanese spot (6 tables) offers a very simple menu, with a sharp Taiwanese focus. It apparently was opened by the children of people who ran a similar spot in Taiwan for 30 years. So they have really good recipes!
The service is really friendly, and you can see everything being prepared in the small open kitchen in the back. They offer an extensive selection of teas (I counted about 20) to choose from, and a small food menu.
The broth of the beef noodle soup was extremely flavourful, not greasy at all, and didn't taste overly salty or MSG laden like it does at many other spots. I really loved the broth. The noodles were cooked perfectly so they still had some chew. The pickled veggies were also a treat - they were still a bit crunchy, slightly sweet, and not salty at all. The beef was a little bit chewy to start - but got much better as I let it soak in the broth and it softened up nicely. I didn't get any fresh veggies on the soup, but I think in addition to the tendon factory being closed perhaps the fresh veggie farm is shut down as well! I think they normally do provide fresh veggies too from what I understand.
The wontons in chili sauce were a tender wrapper that was perfectly cooked surrounding a generous filling. They were topped with a spicy chili sauce that gave my brow a nice sweat as well as crunchy green onions to round out the flavour. Nice dish!
Overall a really nice version of Taiwanese Beef Noodle, and I look forward to returning when the farm and tendon factory are back in business!Listed in: Vancouver Taiwanese Food
