I went to Accent after a recommendation from a friend who knows the owner.  It was exactly what I expected.  Accent is tucked away just off Whyte on 104st.  It has a comfy non-pretentious vibe and the crowd is very low-key.

The last time I was here was on a double-date and it was the perfect setting for appetizers and drinks.  We had the hummus and bread appy, and while the bread assortment was amazing (love carbs) the hummus left a lot to be desired.  It supposed to be muddled at the table but it came a bit too dry to do so.  After some EVOO it ended up being ok, but still not the best ever.

Accent is a great place to meet friends before a big night out or to just hang out in a casual setting.  It's a little gem among many larger lounges.

Accent Lounge is a great find on Whyte Avenue.  Unlike many of the more pub-like places that cater to the U of A college crowd, Accent actually has an intimate, mature, classy and trendy feel to it.  Old wooden furniture with semi-dim lighting and a good vibe.

The menu is European inspired with most of the dishes being some makeover of a traditional and often times, well known European dish.  The drinks are great and on Thursday nights Alley Kat pints and martinis are cheaper than usual.  They also (usually) have a live band on Thursday nights.  That's really awesome and I've had the opportunity to atted and F & M performance here.

I had the Greek Salad which was really the chef's version of one.  I guess I was looking forward to a cucumber, tomato, kalamata olives and red onions salad with pieces of feta cheese and some olive dressing but instead got a mixed green salad with the aforementioned "ingredients" on top and the feta shaven.  It was decent and wholesome for sure, but not what I was looking for.

A special mention goes to the martinis. They're pretty robust (I had two different ones) and made appropriately.  I don't think they have the kind of variety a place like Devlin has and I am pretty sure they don't even have a list of "inventive" martinis with them.  It's all about staying old school and classy.  I prefer that :-)

Must try out a Thursday night here.  Arrive early and try some food.  It's good food and not at all pub fare.  I would say halfway between fine dining and pub food.  *Yes, that's a horrible interpolation*

Accent is a hidden gem; it doesn't get nearly the press it deserves! I've come here both for special occasions and just your average night out. Accent has a great drink menu with some of the best martinis in the city, but their food menu really surprised me: delicious! Unique dishes with a distinctly European flair. At first the high quality eats feel slightly out of place because the venue has such a classic old Pub-like feel, but ultimately they're what keep me coming back. I've also had great nights at Accent when they have live music. The restaurant is entirely too small to host a band, but they find a way to make it work. I would eat here every night if my budget permitted.

We were going to check out a play and a friend suggested Accent for dinner first.
Hubs and I got there a bit early and had some time to check the place out before our dinner comapions arrived.
It was OK, small-ish and dark.  The furniture seemed old, and not necessarily in a cool, kitschy way, but in a needs updating way.  Everything seemed a bit haggard and worn down out front, and then I made the mistake of going to the bathroom.  Dingy, in need of a really good scrubbing and a fresh coat of paint.  And everything, from the TP roll to the toilet to the faucets seemed wobbly and in need of tightening.
When our friends arrived, we looked over the menu and made our choices.  Unfortunately, they were out of the chicken mornet (it was only 6pm!), so a quick second choice was selected.
The service was extremely slow.  We waited what felt like an eternity for our food, and all of our water glasses were bone dry before we were able to flag someone down for a refill.  All around the table the food was ok, nothing earth shattering and fairly pricey.
Our friend ordered a $10 crepe for dessert and, again after waiting a really long time for it to arrive, she said it was not good at all.  She was disappointed in the use of raspberry syrup rather than actual fruit for the filling and found the crepe itself to be chewy.
The restaurant was also really hot, and because the large window/doors to the patio were open, the room was filled with flies.
An unfortunate aspect of summer, but not very appetizing.
What made matters worse was that we were sitting so that we could gaze longinly at the good eats being served on the Next Act patio right across the street.
At least we know better for next time.

I like that Accent is such an intimate little venue. A lot of Edmonton bars and lounges can feel oversized sometimes, and if it's not happy hour, they look a little empty as a result.

Accent Lounge, hidden just off Whyte Ave on 104th street, is going to be one of my new spots for a classier type of girls night out. Last night, Bridget G, Charmaine F and I snagged a table in the corner (one of the last ones) and took in some music from one of our favourites, Sister Gray. This is a great music venue and the key lime martini was an excellent recommendation. Our waitress was a little tricky to get a hold of, but the drinks made up for it.

I've heard great things about the food so hopefully next time I can do dinner and drinks here at Accent. Plus I can't wait until it's nice enough for the patio to be put out!

Though it is called, "Accent Lounge", when you look it up, it is under "Accent European Lounge"....my first clue as to what we may end up with for dinner--a hit and miss all at the same time.  For those that don't know, it used to be "Milan's".
My companion picked this place, however, to his credit, he looked at the website and like the photos that you see when looking for apartments, well, let's just say that the photos are not what you'll get if you think it is a "small, quaint, romantic spot."  It is "small and quaint", if you want to also consider quaint dead bugs in the window sill, quaint.  However, onto to dinner....
Given my last "Northern European" experience, I thought I would go for a dish from a bit "south", the "Classic French Mornet".....now, the menu says it is "morsels of tender chicken and chopped portabella mushrooms nestled in a bed of duchess potatoes"....it is true, and I counted the morsels:  there were 9...maybe I am having bad luck with meat Fridays (but last week was Friday the 13th, so I can accept it, but this night?!).  I basically had a lovely bowl of mashed potatoes with chicken and mushrooms on top.....unfortunately, this is what it was.  Again, based on the description, I was expecting something totally different.  On a cold night, this is a GREAT dish to have, but on May 20th, for some reason I was expecting a "twin size" bed of duchess potatoes as opposed to the "queen size" version.  On the other hand, my partner had the "Grilled Veg Stack" which he enjoyed.  We shared the "Hummus" appetizer which was good....however, for this one you have to "work" for it:  The dish is served in a small bowl with a mortar and you have to mash the chickpeas  yourself....an original idea, to be sure....If anyone is interested, I think my companion took a picture of me while I was mashing them :-]
I KNOW we ordered dessert....but for the life of me, I can't remember what I ordered, nor can my companion....and we typically ALWAYS can remember that part of dinner....well, to Accent's credit, if we can't remember, it must have not been bad :-]
I would like to go back now that I know what it REALLY is:  An easy and small pub.  Based on the other comments I have seen, I'll be trying the beer and potentially sticking to the starters, going with a group of friends....

Whyte Ave is having a bit of an identity crisis, given the steep turnover of businesses as of late. Accent remains as one of the better places to dine in this avenue's vicinity.  Dark, woodsy atmosphere, good drinks and decent eats. The carpaccio is buttery soft and rich, just as it should be. I'm not convinced that the "do it yourself" style hummus is the way to go. You're presented with a bowl of chickpeas, garlic and olive oil, and must mash it all together. The end result is pretty rustic and the accompanying flatbreads could be softer. I would like to give Accent another star but must sample more of their menu items to accurately do so.

A nice little European-style lounge with a friendly feel to it. I've been for girls' nights out and for romantic date evenings and enjoyed the place. The menu choices are limited and some are over-priced. The schnitzel is delish. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back often, but I'd happily go if a friend wanted to check it out.

Four of us sat down around 9:30 on a Saturday night for a late meal.  The place was loud and bustling until the large group of ladies paid up and left. Whew!
Service was fast and friendly.  Hubby and I started out with one order of steak tartar.  A large portion arrived with 6 crostinis, garnished with 3 whole garlic cloves and some cucumber/ tomato slices.   Our friends shared a large Greek salad.  Mostly lettuce, it's not the way I would have made it, but they said it was delicious.  My entrée was simple, peasant food.   Chicken morsels in a creamy mushroom sauce over potatoes that have been whipped within an inch of their life.  I was happy to have the freshly ground pepper over top as it needed a little pep.  I also could have used a bigger portion.  The wiener schnitzel was the king that night.  Even the small portion is bounty enough for a big man. An array of beautifully done veggies accompanied the golden schnitzel.  The rack of lamb was nice with all the trimmings.  Also a good dish, but we were all still hungry after the meal.   I love the imported beer menu.  It turns out "Litovel" from the Czech Republic is perfect for washing down peasant food.  It's not cheap, but it's a great place to take friends for something different on Whyte Ave. I thought it had really nice ambience.

Accent Lounge is a cozy restaurant in the middle of a crazy Whyte Ave. It is a good on a Friday. They have good serve, food and drinks.

They definitely have a Euro feel going on. They had a lot of stuff on the menu and everything sounded good, but this made it so hard to choose. We ordered many different dishes and shared. Everything tasted good too. Everything on the menu was reasonably priced and the service was good as well.

If you're looking for somewhere different to check out on Whyte Ave then this is for you.

This Euro lounge is fairly new. It replaced Milan's, which I heard was good and always meant to go to. I guess you snooze, you lose. So when I saw Accent I thought I'd better beetle on over to check it out. They have a dark wood interior that's intimate and cozy and some table dividers that add a bit of privacy, even though you can hear the conversations people are having right next to you.

The menu is fairly pricey. We had the bruschetta and salon with cream cheese and capers, both of which were delicious, but the bacon wrapped lobster tail with cream sauce was what really appealed to me. We just didn't want to drop big bucks for a little snack, later on a Wednesday night.  They serve premium beer. My dining partner was drawn to the Innis and Gunn boxed beer for $10 a bottle, which sits on every table to coax curious connoisseurs. I tasted it and it's a very strong, oaky beer, but he went back to drinking the regular I&G, cause he liked it better. I found the service friendly and liked the classy, yet relaxed atmosphere. Some were dining, while others were sipping bevvies and doing work on their laptop. My kinda place, but I'd probably stick to the appies. I heard the schnitzel is amazing though. They've kept part of the old menu so I guess I'll get to try Milans after all.
