Wow. I thought Dollarama was a good dollar store, but Absolute Dollar is, dare I say, even better? They had so much nice merchandise. Almost nothing looked junky or cheap. The gift bags were really pretty, and they look like they should cost at least three to five dollars, rather than just a dollar.

Today, this place was completely decked out in Christmas merchandise. There were cards, decorations, wrappings, ribbons, and everything you can think of that you might need for Christmas.

The stationary aisle had mostly generic brands, but I was surprised to see Bic brand highlighters! These are actually really good highlighters too, and they are expensive in regular stores.

I couldn't believe it, when I saw that they were selling bras. Would you ever buy a bra from the dollar store??? I guess if I was really hard up on cash, and I really needed a bra, maybe I would.

Dare I say that Absolute Dollar is better than my beloved dollar store??

It is quite a close call. One that I am not sure I am willing to make after only one visit to Absolute Dollar. This store is pretty darn awesome though.

This store is filled with much more stuff than dollarama. It has loads and loads of stuff for crafts, your home, your body and many more things that are just for fun. They also sell some "As Seen on TV" products, but not ones that are well known!

There was a woman at the front filling helium balloons which was super loud, but it was nice to know that you could go here and get a nice helium balloon for a cheaper price.

I will go back here for sure. Maybe I will eventually change my mind and say this place wins over dollarama...

Absolute Dollar is a mega dollar store.  Everything here is a dollar or less - even brand name overruns and toys that are licensed characters from movies. The size of an average supermarket, Absolute Dollar carries greeting cards, craft supplies, housewares, things for pets, toys, candy, snacks, and seasonal items like Halloween costumes, Christmas decorations, and summer pool toys. I often head here to get postcards and stickers as gifts for a child I sponsor in Bangladesh. Surprisingly, there is very little staff turnover and I often recognize a lot of the faces who work here. It's a great place to grab something to munch on, or get something you;ve run out of for the kitchen or bathroom.

The one thing that always bothered me about this place is that it moved in right next door to a much smaller dollar store that had been in the Jasper Gates shopping area for several years prior. That store is now a general convenience store and it is a miracle it has managed to survive. The business world can indeed be cut throat.

What a shocker!! A dollar store that actually sells things for a dollar. I remember back in the day when stores like this still existed and then mysteriously the prices started to rise over a dollar (How dare they?!?). This place is a rare find and extremely cool.

It carries the same stuff as most other dollar stores except, like I said before, the stuff here is actually a dollar. Another thing that stood out was that most of the stuff didn't look like dollar store stuff. It wasn't cheap looking, some of it looked like it was made with actual quality.

I hit up dollar stores because sometimes you can find some cool random things that might keep you entertained for a little while. Ya.. sometimes I will buy toys.. whatever.

I actually took some time to buy some stuff here the other day and they definitely have items that are more than a dollar.  I don't know if they always did, but they do now.  That's probably why they added the "Plus" after Absolute Dollar.

The most expensive thing I saw here was $6.  I tend to prefer dollar stores where things are all a dollar but I don't think they exist anymore.

They actually had some fun games here!  I bought a travel chess/checker board and a new deck of cards - both $1 each.

I also splurged on a $2 bottle of BBQ sauce that was actually pretty freaking big and it looked too good to pass by!

The staff here were very friendly.  I think that happy smiling staff make such a big difference in a person's experience with a store.

I really like Absolute Dollar, now with a Plus!

Finally, a dollar store that sells quality merchandise. Absolute Dollar is one of the city's rare ones where you can actually find sweet stuff beyond just the usual made-in-China junk, and I've made more than a few trips to Stony Plain Road specifically to pick up items that only they seem to stock. It's provided a ton of the decor for a spaceship film set being built in my basement, and most of the lettuce in my garden had its origins here. On my last trip over, I saw a whole end display made up of dead-stock vintage glassware. It's discoveries like that one that will keep me heading back to Absolute Dollar.
