Going out for a burger and fries these days will run you $20, so it's nice to find a place like Absolute Comedy where you can still get great food and entertainment and not feel like you're going to be eating Mr. Noodles for the next week. Prime time Saturday will run you $15 including the tax (that's what a movie will cost you). Beer and food is all reasonably priced in the club. There's even a pre-show buffet package that's about $24 (and that INCLUDES admission).

If you're going to the 8 pm show, you're strongly encouraged to come about 7-7:15 pm. They seem to sell out Saturday nights. Choice seats go early. Don't worry about getting the stage side seats. The comedians will poke some fun at you but nothing horrible. You also do need to reserve by phone (especially for Saturday). They also require a credit card to hold the reservation and you'll, no doubt, be charged if you don't show up. So make sure you do.

    A few down sides:

    1) the box office only accept cash. As in real paper currency. No debit cards. The bar does accept plastic.

    2) They really pack you in there. Tables are ultra close.

    3) The show is about 90 minutes. The waitress will hit you up mid show for a new round. That's a bit of an interruption. If you need to stay beered through the performance, consider ordering a pitcher.

    4) Beer selection is uninspired.

The format is pretty traditional: An MC that does some warm up, a couple comedians do 10-15 minute sets. Then the headline act does a 40 minute show with the MC coming out between acts to do a few jokes and intro the new comedian. There's no intermission so as I note in 3, get your beers for the night.

    Too much fun.

They always have great acts at a fraction of the cost of Yuk Yuks.
Fairly priced drinks too. And can't beat the location: right on Yonge and Eg.

    Best date idea ever.

Right at Yonge and Eglinton (below the Rose and Crown), a real treat to getaway from the norm.

Today, we're always connected.  If not, there always to be anxiety.  Well, put your phone away and close that laptop.  This is a throwback to real human interaction.  As a result, there is increased focus on the act and words resulting in a different world experience.

3 main acts.. 1st, more of a 'beginner', 2nd more polished and experienced.. 3rd, the 'showstopper' who is very experienced, quick on his feet and really involves the audience (this particular one did it in a friendly way).  Obviously it'll vary week by week.

You can order food and drinks during the show.  There is a place out front with pool table, fooseball, bar, etc, to hang out before the show starts.  Theatre is in the back.

They are a bit strict in letting people in when the whole group is not there.

Also, I would say, if they handed out a little phamphlet or sheet with the names of the performer and where you can follow-them I think would be helpful.  All in all, a experience and activity outside the norm.

DONT COME HERE IF YOU BUY THOSE DAILY DEAL VOUCHERS.

I came here numerous times with friends before, it was good service.
However, I bought a daily deal voucher for a girls night out. Let me tell you, it was the WORST service ever, all of a sudden. We were the first ones to arrive because of their 'buffet' but there weren't enough people with the vouchers in to have a buffet. (There were 5 of us, 3 from another table - you need 10 to have a buffet). So they let us order from the menu instead with a certain price. However, when the waiter explained to us, she was VERY confusing - even the other table agreed. We called out the manager several times, and she was RUDE. We were the last ones to get our food. They charged us extra on our bill for food we didn't even order and made us tip $4 per head.

I had better service before, but because of this one experience my friends and I have vowed to never come back. I'm very lenient when it comes to customer service but for this it was tidiculous.

Taking a reservation seems to be like talking with the dictator of GoAwayAStan. The seats are very uncomfortable and the food is cheap and bland. As for the comedians... they are pretty darn funny. I've heard they can be hit or miss but the few times I've gone I guess I've been lucky on that part.

Part of me wants to give this a lower rating with the issues but since there are so few places with good comedians I just can't.

The show is hit and miss. I've gone here on a couple of Saturday nights where I didn't laugh at all and then also where I laughed the whole night.
(Also experienced the same feeling on their 6$ pro/am Wednesday nights).

It's like Comedy russian roulette. I leave here either loving or hating the show (which I'm okay with given that tickets are pretty cheap).

They are also a bit picky about making reservations.

Absolute Comedy is a fantastic comedy club. I've been to this location twice now (once with a group of 20, and once with just 4 four of us), as well as the Ottawa location. All three times I've left quite impressed.

Keep in mind, you should make reservations since the shows often sell out, especially if you're planning to go with a group. Ticket prices vary depending on the day of the week, as do the comedians who come from all over.

I find the place a little different than Yuk Yuk's in that the comedians don't tend to razz the crowd (which I like) and the waitresses carry on serving throughout the entire show rather than just between acts. One thing I have disliked about Yuk Yuk's, that does not happen here, is the comedians criticize the crowd for being a "bad audience". For me that's a big bonus about Absolute.

I have never been disappointed with the quality of the comedians either, though I guess it is plausible that I could have gotten lucky all three times.

I'd highly recommend checking this place out. In my opinion a comedy club like Absolute is the most fun with a big group, but also an awesome way to spend a date night.

There seems to be a trend in comedy clubs and the people running it being jerks. They asked us to be there at 8:30 for the 9:00 show. So we show up a little late at 8:40, no big deal... The first thing the guy at the ticket counter says is "you're late"... Not a very nice way to greet paying customers.

In any case, we had a reservation and our table was waiting for us so there wasn't any need to rush.

The show itself was good. The MC was actually the best act of the night with the 2nd act coming in close 2nd. Surprisingly, amid all the hype, the main act wasn't all that great. I guess humour is a personal thing and I'm sure others enjoyed it.

Overall a pretty good experience and I'm sure I'll be back someday.

The newest and arguably best comedy club in Toronto brings comedy back to a bustling Toronto neighbourhood that is no stranger to laughs.  The former home of the Yuk-Yuk's Super-Club, the entire operation has been made over to provide a showroom designed for comedy.  Patterned off the hugely successful Absolute Comedy club found in Ottawa (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...), the showroom boasts space for well over 200.  Like its Ottawa counterpart, a main bar and dining area allow for pre-dinner meals and dinner packages, and post-show drinks with free pool and foozball.  And for a comedy club, the food is quite tasty as well (either the regular burger or the Buffalo chicken burger filling the hole nicely).

Wednesday nights are the Pro-Am nights where amateurs and professionals alike take the stage trying out new material.  The week's host brings the acts to the stage and the headliner for the week does a brief sample set to allow you to see the type of comedy that will be heard throughout the weekend.  Tuesday nights are becoming more and more popular with theme shows helping to fill out the week.  Every second Tuesday, Andrew Evans hosts "The Dark Show", a night of comedy where the material is, well, dark.  You've been warned.  A couple of other warnings: You need to call for reservations, and if you're really unfortunate, you'll see me taking the stage.  If you see me, say hi.  Once I'm done.

Absolute Comedy is my favourite comedy club in Ottawa, so I was pleased to see it's doing so well that it has expanded to Toronto. This club is much bigger than its Ottawa counterpart. With seating that accommodates 300 people, it may not be as difficult to see a popular show as it can be in Ottawa. However, I still recommend making reservations. When I went on Saturday to the final night of a Bite TV comedian competition, the line up was huge.

The prices are higher than in Ottawa, but they're still cheaper than Yuk Yuk's most nights. They're closed on Mondays and Tuesdays with an amateur/pro night on Wednesdays for $6. On the second Tuesday of every month, they also have their Dark Show, which features much more risque uncensored comedy than their usual shows.

Make sure to fill out those comment cards too. My friends and I have won so many free tickets from occasionally doing that in the past.
