Can you find me another place in Ottawa where you can laugh this hard and have this great of a time for under $15? I doubt it.
It's cozy but actually set up much better than the only other comedy club I've been to in Ottawa. The food is standard pub food but it's actually not that expensive and depending on the night you go you may want to plan on eating and don't feel bad about it -- you'll laugh off the calories.
The idea of the downstairs bar is cool too because it allows people to hang around and sometimes mingle with the comedian.Listed in: Ottawa Date Ideas

Went with friends last weekend - just hilarious. Great service, great entertainment, but a little squished.

If you like comedy, make time to go to this place. I was only in Ottawa for a few days and wanted something to do on a Monday night and I stumbled across this place. Monday nights are "open-mic" nights and the cover was only $4 so I was a little skeptical but it turned out to be such a good show! There were about 8 different comedians that had about a 7-8 minute set each and they were all pretty good (except the 1st guy - he was absolutely AWFUL and I questioned how the other acts would be but it definitely got better as the night went on...). We had to actually call to make reservations since the place only seems to hold about 50 people but it was worth it! I can't imagine how good it must be on a regular night if open-mic night was this good. I HIGHLY suggest it. 2 thumbs way up (wish I had another thumb so I could give another one for the awesome price of $4!!!!)
Go. To. This. Comedy. Club.
Seriously...it's worth it. -

I took my girlfriend here and it was definitely high-quality in all respects. The comedians, especially the host and headliner, were great. There were three acts in total, plus the host.
As mentioned, the sightlines are great, its wide around the stage, and the seats are close together, making everyone feel close to the stage, and maximizing the atmosphere. While the seats are a bit too snug, its not to the point where its uncomfortable; its well worth it.
While we didn't order food, and just had drinks, it looked and smelled really good; with the wings in particular looking scintilating. The servers are quick, energetic, and friendly. A lot of them joke around with the regulars. My view was only blocked once or twice, and it was only because they were directing a customer to their seat.
Reservations are key; especially on friday and saturday nights. They have an organized system that corresponds your reservation number with your seat.
All in all, can't complain at all about Absolute Comedy, always good for a fun time! -

This is the best comedy club in Ottawa (meh to Yuk Yuks). Everyone sits cozied up close to the stage, which creates a better and more focussed atmosphere for the audience and comedians. The food and beer selection isn't spectacular but the servers are excellent, quiet and efficient. I've been to countless shows at this club and it's rare that I've witnessed a really bad audience or comedian, although of course it always has to happen occasionally.
The club supports large groups of people and offers a buffet package deal in the downstairs lounge before the show. You can also head down here afterwards to continue drinking and talk to some of the comedians. It's obviously not a guarantee they'll want to talk to you, but I find they're often very friendly.
It's basically mandatory to call for reservations because this club is so popular. They require people to come in at least 15 minutes before the show starts.
I'd also recommend going to their Wednesday night show (only $5) to see some local amateurs trying to prove their worth. The professional comedians also have a slot that night, but it's smaller than Thursday to Sunday when customers pay $8-$12.
Also, don't sit in the front row on a first date. -

This is the club that has become the flagship for all independently run clubs in North America. Comics from all across Canada and the US have come to recognize that Absolute Comedy in Ottawa is one of the best clubs in the continent.
The design of the club shows that the team that put this club together knew about comedy and how to make an audience happy. The showroom is upstairs, leaving the downstairs bar available for pre-show dinner buffets, free pool and shuffleboard, and on truly busy nights, available to house a second show where the acts run downstairs and perform for the overflow crowd below.
The main showroom has no obstructions, clear sightlines from every angle, and seating that has everyone in together close and tight to produce the best atmosphere for the crowd and comics alike. The servers are spectacularly trained to be able to swoop in, take orders, and drop off food and drinks in a manner that so does not interrupt the show that ninjas and Navy Seals would be envious. All this and the food served is some of the best I've ever tasted in a comedy club. It sounds like a back-handed compliment like saying you're the best public speaker in Flin-Flon, but it does stand out from other pubs and restaurants.
If you haven't figured out by now, reservations are a complete must.Listed in: The Places I Go Out

When your only competition in Ottawa opens a satellite location across the street from you, you know you're doing something right.
Absolute Comedy is a great place for a group of friends, or even to take someone on a fun date (although comedians tend to pick on couples, be warned).
Form Wednesday to Sunday there are always performers with Wednesday being the amateur night and a steal at only $5 cover. The price goes up as it gets closer to Saturday, but at worst you're going to pay $12 to get in. that isn't bad for a couples of hours of entertainment.
Obviously the humour factor depends on the performer and the sense of humour of the audience, but the talent that comes through Absolute is generally top notch. I've been a few times and I always leave with a stomach that hurts from laughing.
The food, however, will not make your stomach hurt, although it is nothing too special. For a comedy club it is good, but there is a great selection of other restaurants on Preston Street. I would limit yourself to appetizers at the club.
Waiter/waitress service at all the tables is nice. There is no having to get up in the middle of a show, and the bar is not too far from the performing area so service tends to be quick.
Between Yuk-yuk's and Absolute, I gotta give it to Absolute every time. -

I went here on their 5 year celebration for a friends birthday. The comeics they had in from Montreal were hilarious. What I found about this club was that it was quite small, but other than that it was excellent. The stage could be viewed easily from any location. Once the show ended you were invited downstairs for drinks. It was my first time ever in a comedy club and this was a terrific experience.

We were only in town for a few days and found this place on Yelp. I didn't recognize any of the acts ahead of time, so it was a bit of a gamble, but 2 of the 3 comedians were absolutely hilarious - and they were "no-name" locals! The club is quaint with nice decor. It's small and cramped as most comedy clubs are. We sat in the front row and when I extended my legs, they were on the stage.

I second the review. This is a great place to see comedy. And definitely make reservations. The food is ok, but making reservations for the show, and going out for dinner before or after at one of the many surrounding restaurants is the way to go.
