Saturday night out with friends. They were craving Jamaican. I'm in!
A-Yah-Mi-Deh! is a Jamaican/Carribbean restaurant & bakery with a liquor license and a great take out menu.
There are food specials for each day of the week. It's possible that they run out of certain things. Have a back up order.
Hubby and I ordered the curried goat stew with rice and coleslaw. The portions are gigantic, so consider sharing. Our friends had the A-Y-M-D chicken. It was fantastic. It is their signature dish.
The host was so friendly, he kept bringing us little samples of other dishes to try. Asked if we needed anything else. More water? Red Stripe?
We ended up taking a good deal of it home in containers. We also bought a loaf of bread from their bakery section. Our companions took home some meat patties.
A large entrée will run about $13-15.00 The weekly lunches around $7.50.
They serve breakfast only on Saturdays.
The 8 table restaurant is not fancy, but it is clean and the staff are friendly. We thought it was delicious and good value.
If you're cruising down 118 ave, stop in and get a little "lunch snacker" to go for $5.50. Wash it down with non alcohol ginger beer.Listed in: Underdog Challenge

Review from Saoirse M.

I visited this restaurant for dinner, and will definitely be returning. Do not let the neighbourhood deter you from visiting; the City of Edmonton and local residents are putting a lot of effort into revitalizing this end of 118th Avenue, and A Yah Mi Deh! will certainly be worth the trip.
A Yah Mi Deh! is a casual Jamaican restaurant and bakery. Restaurant service is "deli style", where food and drink are ordered and paid for at the bakery counter, and subsequently brought to your table. The interior is spartan, but clean and and welcoming. The service was friendly, though not particularly quick - but hey, good things come to those who wait!
Various dishes are prepared daily and on a weekly rotation/schedule, but Caribbean staples such as oxtail, jerk chicken, saltfish, etc. are available daily. The bakery had quite a large selection of Jamaican savoury and sweet baked goods, which looked fresh and very tasty, though I did not sample these.
I split a beef patty with my dinner partner, as well as sampled the oxtail and jerk chicken. Let me tell you - neither dish disappointed! Both meats were succulent and moist, and seasoned to perfection. You have a choice of sides with your dish (which I declined), and each of us ordered a small size portion, which was gigantic! I could easily turn the large size portion into two or three meals. There restaurant also has a decent selection of Caribbean softdrinks and juices.
If you enjoy Jamaican food, or are looking for an ethnic dining experience, I would encourage you to try A Yah Mi Deh! Casual, but delicious! I will definitely be returning.
