Downtown, Vancouver, BC
We have seen this Restaurant. Having passed it many a times in our travels
But today we chose to try it out. My only question is way did we wait so long.
The restaurant itself is nothing special
I mean in it when I say that the ambiance is plain quit boring to be precise. Hence my rating of 4 not 5.
The service was great. The prices are a good price for the quantity & quality of the food. Our food was cooked & served in a timely manner. And the food was exceptional. I highly recommend this restaurant to any one wanting great food, great service, fair prices with out all the trappings of a fancy well decorated establishment. If your looking for a fancy posh place keep going. If you are looking for quality food & service & a reasonable price then search no more. -

Absolutely awful. waitresses seems pissed off to see us. We ordered a Chana Masala and a Chicken Vindaloo, they both tasted exactly the same : a non-descript spicy tomato sauce. those people don't know anything about indian food.
And those 2 dishes were pretty expensive, about $13 ! don't waste your time and money here. -

I've eaten out a lot in my past ten years living in the west end, and this is the only Indian restaurant I return to on a regular basis.
I'm not qualified to comment on authenticity, but the quality of ingredients is very good and the portions are fair. The butter chicken is delicious with tender chucks of chicken; the prawns badami is rich and tasty--one of my favorites. The free appy (some kind of crispy thin bread served with sauces) is a nice touch; love the green sauce!
There are at least three Indian restaurants on this side of the street on this block, and I wonder whether some of the lower-rating reviewers got the right place to review? (or we just have different taste buds:). This place does not do delivery, so I think that reviewer may have been writing about the wrong place. -

The buffet was pretty good, but we had to wait for them to finish putting out the buffet food. If it says a certain time, you should be prepared for people coming into your restaurant! Just sayin'..
So that knocks a star off .
The service was pretty good otherwise and I'd go back again as it was a pretty cheap buffet (13.95 I think?) -

This is the nearest Indian restaurant to us, which is why we have been visiting this place three times. Okay look inside and attentive staff. Food is okay, but nothing more. Not the best Indian restaurant in Vancouver.

I have been coming to A Taste of India for years now. I discovered it as it is near an old office and I would make it a weekly visit for some lamb curry. Now, my wife and I will order take out every couple weeks on average and are very rarely disappointed.
I will say, however, that the onion bhajia are hit or miss as 90% of the time they are fresh and delicious while the other 10% of the time they are not great. Otherwise, the flavours are quite authentic and the prices aren't awful especially considering they are located at Robson and Bute. -

It's a hole in the wall Indian restaurant on Robson. I had a craving for Indian and it was near the hotel so I thought that I would give it a shot.
I went in around 2:00 pm and there was no one in the restaurant. I didn't necessarily let that deter me, and I'm glad that I didn't.
I ordered the chana sag and a side of garlic naan. It was so good! The naan wasn't necessarily the best that I've had, but it definitely wasn't the worst.
If you're in vancouver, and in the area, it's definitely worth your time to stop in. The atmosphere is casual and a little bit cheesy, but I was there for the food. And for the price, I definitely have no complaints.
I'll definitely seek this place out in the future. -

Lots and lots of vegetarian options here.
I went with 2 coworkers, who are much more excited than me about Indian food. I like Indian food- but I don't usually go out of my way for it. Anyway, we tried the sampler platter- samosa, pakora, bhajia, tikkea, kebab, and chicken pankora. Everything was well spiced and seemed fresh.
For my meal, I had the lunch special Chicken Tandoori. It was average. Perhaps an easy place to top on Robson, but there's other Indian restaurants to go to first. -

This place is a nice little restaurant with decent service. I usually stay away from indian places unless it's the lunch buffet, because you get so much more value by cramming as much indian food as you can into your pie hole for $8.95. However, we needed a break from all the east asian food, so indian sounded good. Here's what we got:
Chicken Tikka Masala - very tasty. The flavors were more intense than any other chicken tikka masala I've ever had. Maybe the lunch buffet versions I've been eating all my life have been watered down.
Sag Paneer - even being a meataterian, I can appreciate some vegitarian dishes. Nice and flavorful, and went perfectly with the naan.
Garlic Naan - kind of sucked that it costs extra, but it was pretty damn good.
Overall it was a pretty satisfying dinner. The portions don't appear to be very much at first glance, but once you've eaten, you'll be full. -

We stopped in for a late dinner on our first night vacationing in Vancouver. We were hungry, bordering on cranky. This is a good, but not great, Indian restaurant.
We ordered the chicken tikka masala, the lamb curry, and the saag paneer (this is our standard Indian restaurant order). The lamb and saag paneer were pretty good. The chicken tikka masala (my wife's favorite Indian dish) was a bit disappointing. The chicken was a little tough (overcooked) and the sauce seemed bland.
This place is okay, but with so many Indian food restaurants in downtown Vancouver, I am sure there is better. -

I just went for a quick lunch there with a friend, and let me tell you, very authentic. No less, no more.
The TV was showing a classical Indian soap opera, the music couldn't be more Indian. The lunch buffet, couldn't be more ethnic and inexpensive. But very good.
The butter chicken, soft velvety taste with lots of spices and not too much currie. The basmati rice, just like a basmati rice has to be, no one grain stuck to the other, the amount of carrot in it, precise. The samosas, a little bit to spicy to my taste, the pakora, very well, and the naan was fresh and warm.
But the winner of all buffet was the delicious rice pudding. What a delight, the perfect balance between milk, rice and sugar, and the raisins, the yummiest. I tried twice!
And for that price, well, you can't go wrong.
But keep in mind this place is just for a quick lunch. Don't go there if you are looking to fine dine or anything close.
Nice casual unpretentious place. -

This is where we spent our New Years eve after an incredible day of skiing in Whistler.
Our hotel was just around the corner and this was great food and a perfect way to start ringing in the New Year, with the help of some Taj Mahal beers of course.
The place, that night, was filed was the owners family and friends who welcomed us in. As well as having lovely service with excellent food. -

The craving and the laziness happened simutaneously for me this afternoon. I wanted indian food pretty bad but didn't want to venture an extra 5 blocks to my favorite spot so chose a closer option on robson. Let's just say that being lazy can bite you in the a**. Especially if you know what you could've had instead. This place isn't too bad but a little pricey for lunch. The Shahie Paneer was pretty good but they said it would be like the paneer I described, with a creamy tomato base, but it wasn't. The rice tasted old and hard. The eggplant bartha was standard. The garlic naan was delicious. We were the only two there the whole time. The bill was over $40.

We had been meaning to give this place a try for a while now, since it's so close to our apartment. We finally went in for dinner yesterday. It was pretty packed and the only free table when we went in was next to the bathrooms. It was pretty uncomfortable, but when another (larger) table became free, we switched and it was ok from there. It has the standard Indian restaurant decor. Lots of quaint little paintings and decorations, along with the HD TV playing Indian music videos. We ordered the Taste of India Platter or whatever it was called, to start. It had the standard Indian appetizers, like samosas and stuff. Everything was very tasty. We ordered the Butter Chicken as the main course. We figured it would be enough to share, since it was lke $16.99. It wasn't. It was good, though. It tasted home made, like you could visit a random Indian family and they would serve you something just like it for dinner. I also ordered some ras malai, and I don't really have anything to say about that. I ordered ras malai, I got ras malai, and I ate ras malai and I liked it. Nothing special to say about that one way or the other.
It was a nice meal, but definitely too expensive. I probably won't be going back, just because there are a lot of other Indian restaurants where the food is just as good but either cheaper or in larger portions. -
Review from Paul W.
Quiet little family run restaurant at the top end of Robson. 2nd generation trained chef has been expertly trained. Soft, dry naan breads, light rice and a fantastc, flavorful curry makes this a GREAT place to visit if you are a fan of Indian cuisine. Highly recommended!

We had wonderful meals here in the past, but were frightfully disappointed on Christmas. The service was slow and surly. The restaurant was busy, and I was shocked to figure out halfway through our time there that only one other group had received their food. The veggie samosas were good. When we asked about one of the condiments, we received the recipe of "onions and ketchup." Really? It didn't taste like onions and ketchup. If you don't know or don't want to say, then just say so. Ugh. There were four pieces of paneer in one dish. The prawns were actually shrimp that were either pre-cooked, frozen and just defrosted with the way-too vinegar-y briyani thrown over them. Or they were just boiled with the sauce thrown on top. Either way, they were tasteless and had a stale testure to them. The garlic naan had an unplesant acidic/pungent garlic taste, and devoid of any other flavor. Oh, and it came at the end of the meal. The chai was charged per cup, even though we waited for our food for over 30 minutes.
Skip it. There's much better fare to be had. -

their butter chicken is too thick, like a paste, gave me the heartburn... the other day l asked for delivery within downtown, oh god! worst experience ever!! l ordered at 6pm, it was 6:45 and nothing, l called to ask what happened, cuz they said 30 min delivery, they said the delivery man was already on his way, so l waited until 7:30 l couldn't handle it more, l called to cancel it, they weren't happy, l ordered pizza instead, it got delivery after 20 min, l finished it, and l heard the buzzer ringing, the delivery for the indian food was outside, l told him l had canceled it already because it took 3 hrs to deliver, they didn't even offer a discount or anything... so dissapointed! NEVER ORDER FOR DELIVERY THERE.
