I searched high and low for a bakery in the Williamsburg area that offers reasonably priced pies and would not disappoint. We found the place! We were very impressed with their pies this thanksgiving. The apple pie was freshly made with all natural ingredients, no fillers. They were friendly and nice when we came to pick them up! Our overall experience was enjoyable! We are looking forward to trying more yummy desserts!

I live in Williamsburg, but on the wring side of the BQE far away from the fashionable shops on Bedford. Recently I found myself in a bad spot: It was the worst point of August and I was desperate for some decent ice coffee.
Sadly in a sea of shite bodegas there was nothing to be found that was even half decent -- then i came across the A-Roma Bakery which proved to be an oasis of caffeine. The place is small yet charming and well stocked. My iced coffee tastes amazing and the service came with a smile.
Currently I'm avoiding carbs so I can't comment on the baked goods (although they did look good!) -- but A-Roma Bakery is now my local default cafe. -

A little bit out of the way but worth the journey. Its actually slightly off Grand ave before you hit the BQE. There are a few tables but I see it as mostly a take out type of place. I had one of their panini and the bread is one of the best Ive ever tasted. Ingredients were all fresh, nice mix of greens added to the overall taste of the sandwich. My only suggestion is to use fresh real turkey vrs processed as it would elevate the overall quality by leaps, nevertheless still a great tasting choice. Also tried the pain au chocolate which was flaky perfection with a rich and creamy chocolate filling. Staff were friendly and service was good. A definite go to.

I come from a bakery family. My grand pa' grand-uncle, dad, uncles, etc etc, all bakers. It is one of the biggest blessings I've had in life because I simply LOVE good bread.
This place it's a good bakery ran by a good baker. Their coffee is exceptional (macchiato and late drinker myself), good selection of sandwiches, and their atmosphere takes you out of the area for the time being.
I moved out of Williamsburg off to the Jefferson st. stop, and I still visit them from time to time.
I haven't really tried many of their pastries, this area is very tricky. Even if the baker is exceptional, if it seats there for too long it impacts the flavors, and there is nothing the baker can do about that. -

It's a cool cafe to grab some snakes and coffee. however my personal experience here wasn't so great. The service was slow and took forever to get my food. nothing too standard out.
It's definitely an relaxing chill place, but if you are hungry want something quick. this is not the place.
Maybe I will come back try another time when I wasn't so hungry. -

I live right across the street from A Roma, and as someone who works from home it's an awesome place to bring your laptop and get work done. Plus the coffee, panini's and pastries are DELICIOUS.

Everything is so yummy here! The chocolate pear tart, raspberry napoleon and eclair are out-of-this-world. I was happy to find this place now that City Bakery(Flatiron District) rarely make their signature tarts. The two down sides are the location and the fact that they do not take credit cards-- I usually spend about $20 at least here because everything is so good :) 4/22/09 update: Now they accept credit cards, yoohoo!
update* the egg sandwich-- out-of-this-world good. Crispy yet chewy toast perfect combination of cheese/egg/mushrooms and farm-fresh tomato, I have to have it every weekend now! -

I love my expensive, yet quaint, bakery. A subjective offering.. but i live around the corner and so for convenience sake this place is a winner.
The pastries are delicious They have wireless internet for those lazy days when you would like to just chill with your computer in the sun soaked Grand street.
Try it, you'll like it -

Absolutely love this place. Everything is really delicious and very reasonably priced and the staff is super friendly. Recently, they started doing a brunch option for about $5.50. They do have a $10 credit card minimum, and the few times I haven't had cash I didn't mind buying an extra cookie or croissant to bump the total over.
They have free wifi that I've used quite frequently and it's always been fast and reliable. They have a small pile of used books that you can take for free if you want them; I snagged a Tom Robbins once. Also, if you are sitting around long enough, they might pass out a sample of something freshly baked, which is always a treat.
Some personal faves: salmon quiche, ham & cheese croissant, strawberry napoleon, the brunch sandwich, the prosciutto panini, and the iced coffee is consistently good. I have yet to try something there I haven't liked. -

Their pain-au-chocolat are great and only outdone by their amazing almond croissants. The almond croissants sell out fast, so make sure you get one or else you'll have to wait for a new batch.
The coffee is okay and the items here are kind of expensive (~$4). Nevertheless, good for an occasional treat.
The bench just outside their door is a good place to park your pooch while you order or just to hang out and hipster watch.
According to a sign in their window, the stacks of books inside are free. I've not browsed their titles, but I suspect you will not find any top ten books there quite yet. -

A-Roma is a cafe and bakery offering a wide variety of baked goods made on premises and fresh espresso based coffee. The space feels upbeat and comfortable and the service has been welcoming and friendly.
The food is inspired by the immediate local cultural cross section of Italian, Dominican/Puerto Rican, and HIpster. Many of the cakes and pastries are ricotta based, such as a ricotta cheese cake, a ricotta/wheat cake and a ricotta tart with chocolate chips (think cannoli filling! For me, many Italian desserts made with ricotta have similar appeal as Indian sweets like rasgulla). Homemade flan and bread pudding are the 'dulce' alongside the 'dolce.' Whole wheat options for breads and muffins are always on display. Rounding it out is a broad selection of treats and light bites.
My cappuccinos have hit the spot. I've had the bread pudding, the ricotta cheese cake, and the ricotta/wheat cake which featured a lemony ricotta filling studded with softened wheat kernels to break up the creamy texture with subtle bits of chewiness. All of these were delicious. A recent croissant was savory and buttery with that desired pliability that makes it great for dunking into the coffee.
If I want the old world rejuvenated with a fresh and fun attitude I go to A-roma! -

This place was okay. Just okay.
My lemon cookies were far too lemony for my liking - but I dug the free wifi and friendly service. I'll come back to check out the discounted pastries after 6pm for sure! -

The owner is the baker here and he is absolutely amazing! By far some of the best baked goods I've had in NYC, or the US for that matter. Their panini's are great for lunch and the coffee rules too. This place is a real gem! I recommend everything!

This is a great bakery in a sunny but barren block; the tarts are exquisite and so is the coffee.

The croissant was fantastic. It's got to be one of the best that I had around NY. Exteremely flaky and buttery. It is almost identical to croissant from Provence En Boite. I got to check out other pastry as well.

This new Pastry shop is really cozy. It offers a wide variety of pastries, like fruit tart and cakes. Their prices are very low compared to other pastries in the area. The bonus in A-roma is that after 6:00PM all the cakes and pastries are half-price. This is a bakery that wants to offer daily fresh food.

I'm going to refer to another one of my entries, this place makes me happy when I'm in a bad mood. Their croissants (whole wheat honey, pan au chocolat, plain) are super fresh, crisp on the outside and doughy in the middle. I've only gotten croissants there but if you can make an excellent croissant i'm sure everything else has gotta be good.

I've been coming here for a little over a year now (a couple times a week) and they never fail to satisfy! Super sweet employees, most delicious croissant this side of the atlantic and a mozzarella and tomato panini that I can never tire of! So happy to have them just across the street!

love love love! if i could give it 10 stars I would. I live around the corner and have only been here once so I decided to go back in tonight, pastrys are 50% off after 8pm which is great and the staff is SO friendly
they got a little busy while I was waiting and they gave everyone a free cookie for waiting, they had amazing attitudes were super nice
I took home a creme brulee tart and an apple tart, the filling in the creme brulee was to die for, didnt love the crust (im not a big chocolate person) the apple pie tart had a little too much lemon and not enough apple but it was super fresh the crust was soft and flakey and it was still really really good.
when I got home in my bag was a flyer for a free coffee, i'll def be going back. -

So happy there is a great little bakery in the hood now - and great hours too - open til 9pm. There pastries etc. are all high quality but for me it's being able to buy a fresh loaf of bread or a baguette or croissants for the next morning that makes it for me. No more crap bread from Key Food!
