If you want to be original, look for costumes here. You won't find police officer costumes wrapped in vinyl plastics that come in S, M, L or XL. But you will find almost limitless amount of costumes displayed in the entire store. There's virtually no duplicate of a certain costume. Each costume is unique. Just like clothing stores, you can try them on. You will have to mix and match what the store carries - everything from shoes, pants, shirts, wigs, etc. - in order to bring your vision to reality. Hey, we are born with brains. Might as well use them.
But they can get pricey. I bought a pilot helmet, and it cost me $40. And 90%+ of the items are for rental, not for sale. Only small items are for sale. If you care a lot about hygiene and sanitation, you might want to stay away from the this store. And yes, you will definitely be charged for damages. And for the reason that they have to lend the same costumes to others over and over again, I noticed that their clothes (or costumes) are rather heavy. What I mean by that is that they are made well and solid to last for a long time. So their costumes can get quite uncomfortable for an extended period of time.
The staff members are rather kind and nice. But they are not knowledgable with items they carry. They will help you look for costumes and give you suggestions, but there are too many things in the store for them to remember what they have and what they don't have.
Since I have never been to Malabar in Toronto, I can't really mention how this store measures up. But As far as costume store goes, this store is top of its class.
