NIce large Asian supermarket offering foods you don't find see in an everyday grocery store. Parking is usually slim pickins' on the weekends so be warned.

The Market however, is fairly crowded by both patrons and with how everything is layed out. There are displays and items stacked virtually anywhere you could imagine leaving just enough room to push a cart through. The fish/seafood counter is ALWAYS bustling with people waitng to get their order in. The nice thing here is that once you pick your fish, you can chose how you want it cleaned/prepared: ranging from just a de-scalingto a full cleaning + deep frying.

One note of caution, it can sometimes be trecherous trying to man your way through the isles, espeically of the produce section. No one seems to follow any sort of "rules of the road" and walk around aimlessly!

Asia market, large selection of Asian produce but not always fresh, with emphasis on Chinese items.
Get fresh fish and have it deep fried while you wait. There is also a bakery and a Chinese food deli on site.
It's cheap and lively with Asians, it's worth visiting and experiencing something different, and learned to eat and/cook something new and delicious.
Every time I shop there, someone will offer advise on how to select unfamiliar fruits, and what you can cook with the large variety of greens and veggies.
For the most part patrons and employees are happy and willing to help.
Lastly, they also sell a small selection of kitchen appliances for lower prices than other stores in the area.

:( doesn't compare to T&T. Hmm maybe its unfair for me to judge =.= the upside is that everything is cheaper than T&T but the selection isn't as wide. And the quality doesn't seem up to par.

another upside of this South end Ranch 99, is that there's many different selection of asian eats :) Asian cheap eats! nom nom nomm

Yes.. i'm focusing on the good ;D

Idk I always seem to find a decent parking spot whenever I come here. Maybe the goddess of good parking spots is on my side every time I visit. People suck ass at parking here though. But then again, it IS an asian market. And then again I suck ass at parking and I'm pretty asian too. So it all evens itself out in some way.

I'm a tab bit sad I moved away from here because I liked going here for the fruits and veggies. They have a nice selection of veggies here but it's all stocked in a weird confusing way. I think I have caught myself walking back and forth down the same aisle extremely lost.

Their frozen seafood aisle suck. I can never find anything that I'm looking for.

I like that they have a deli here for those times I'm too lazy to cook. It's a very good deal for  a box of food for about $8 and they make you fill it all the way up. No seriously, you must fill it up. I've had the chinese cashier take me back to stuff more food in my box.

I like that I can leave with 5-10 bags of groceries and my total is always around $50 or less. Yay for cheap stuff =)

Thank goodness for 99 Ranch - where else can I go to get my stock piles of Chinese frozen goods and ramen?! Too bad this location has awful parking and the store smells especially fishy. The produce section isn't great - a lot of older fruits and garlic from China (no thanks). Nevertheless, I will still visit this location for my munchies.

Finding a close parking spot here can some times take a while but I like having an Asian supermarket close by my home. Asian markets usually have cheaper produce, meat, and seafood. They have a pretty tasty hot deli on the left side of the store and right next to it is the baked goods. I used to always stop by to pick up a corn and ham bun but they stopped making them. :( In their seafood department they can even fry your fish for you so you can avoid making your home smell of fish.

On a happier note, this is where I buy my sushi grade salmon and tuna, between the bakery and seafood in the cold case they have portioned fish for sushi.

Oh Ranch 99 how I've missed you. Coming from San Diego, and now living in Olympia, I need some real asian food! I'll admit was was disappointed in this store, because it was about half the size of the ones I've been in in CA and NV. BUT they do have the regular staples of my Asian food shopping list. Their prices for meat and seafood are unbeatable, This place will suffice until I can find another huge asian supermarket in the area.

In comparison to other Asian markets, 99 Ranch Market is much cleaner, brighter, and the layout is organized.  Everytime we want to eat oysters we go to 99 Ranch Market and buy a bushel.  It's cheaper than any other market in the area and if you want to buy them individually they sell them like that too.  It's convenient if you live in Renton or along the Renton-Kent border instead of having to drive all the way to Seattle's International District or any of the various Asian markets in the city.  The other benefit to having 99 Ranch Market just down the street from me is when it's time to do sake bombs.  They have all kinds of Asian liquors from sake to soju, and all kinds of Asian beer.  They even have sparkling sake.  They even have all the Asian snacks that I love...shrimp chips, Pocky, etc.

The only bad thing is that they have narrow aisles and when it's busy at the seafood counter you can barely maneuver anywhere in that aisle.  Always have a game plan if you go when it's busy and you are shopping with someone so that they can stay with the cart while you fight with the rest of the people waiting to get served at the seafood counter.

I come here when I'm crabby. Because after a trip to this grocery store there is no way you can be all self focused and pissy.

Marvel over the cheap produce, consider buying snacks you have never heard of, almost convert to vegetarianism at the meat counter, stare in horrid fascination at the live Geoducks! decipher what is in the frozen food sections, pick up an unfamiliar baked good, grab a plastic wastepaper basket, and leave with a sense of proportion.

I come here for one thing and one thing only:
FRIED FISH!! or any seafood you buy there.
They fry it for you for freeee~

So this is what a typical Ranch 99 visit looks like:
    1) Call up some friends, "You down for some fried fish?"
    2) Cook some rice, and maybe some vegetables
    3) Grab sauces from pantry: Kecap Manis (indonesian sweet soy sauce), Chili Sauce
    4) Drive for 30 minutes  -- Arrive at Greatwall Ranch 99
    5) Choose fish.  Our criteria is usually: Weird/unusual/never had before, cheap, not so scary looking
    6) Tell them to Crispy Fry it.
    7) Find a place to sit down and eat it with the rice and sauces.
    8) Feel really content.

If they stop providing this service, there is no reason for me to ever make that drive. HT in Aurora is better.

It's not really all that close to Seattle but it's better then driving to Canada. They carry a bunch of stuff that Uwajimaya doesn't have since this place is a Chinese centered grocery store instead of Japanese.

Some of the things that I love is if you buy a fish they clean it for you (which is normal at most places) and they will even deep fry it if you don't want to cook later (awesome). The seafood here is top notch but like most places they will have things that are not super fresh, so keep an eye out. They also have an Asian deli which consists of things like bbq pork, baked duck etc. It's gone down hill in terms of quality of meat but it's still better then not having this type of food around. They also have a lot of really unique Chinese items, most however are labeled in Chinese only labels so either bring a friend who knows what you want or do some research before hand.

One of the unique things I mentioned is their raw stinky tofu. If you want to try cooking it yourself, I cube the tofu and deep fry it which is delish, or you can simmer them with some beef short ribs and black bean sauce, also super delish.   Man I make myself hungry.

If you're in the area you should check this place out, it's worth at least one visit to broaden your horizons.

Oh look honey, they have a rat problem!  WOW, for years I've shopped here. The veggies are a little wilted... that's fine there's no other Asian grocery close by.

When I tell the manager there's a rat living under the one of the veggie displays they don't seem to care. Apparently they must know, they blocked off one of the holes with cardboard already, and there's gnawed food on the floor in a dark area under the veggie display.

I guess if I saw the Manager handle it with some sort of discrete urgency I could semi-accept it. I went back a few days later and there was just more cardboard blocking more holes. That's just too disgusting. Our family refers to the place as "Rat 99" now.

I'll just make the drive to H-Mart (Federal Way) or Viet Wah (Renton Highlands) now.

If you go on a wrong day, the meat department smells like ass... no, seriously!  It can get pretty bad.  The Ranch 99 on the north side is much cleaner and neutral smelling... but when I'm in Renton, this is where I go to get my groceries.

I like the bakery here.  Their pineapple custard bread is delicious; so is their hot dog bun but maybe it's just because I like almost all hot dog buns from Chinese bakeries :)

I find the people who work here ie, the cashiers, to be very rude.  But maybe it's just a cultural thing, I don't know.  I mean, I understand every word they're saying (they probably don't know it) but it's so rude to have two or three cashiers going on about their conversation while checking people out... or worst, talk about one of their colleague's pay!  But I'm not there to make friends so I just buy my prawn crackers and get outta' here :)

ps: i've bought 'fresh' prawns here twice and both times were mealy - never again.  i'll stick to the produce and everything else but seafood.

People waited 30 minutes just to get the BBQ meat!!!!

    Little note of thanks:

Little baby sister, thank you for having a birthday because if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have stopped by this market to look for an Asian birthday cake. While the decoration on your cake was not the most creative, it sure was super soft, moist, and yummy!! Not to mention, the price was good that it didn't burn a hole in my pocket.

Special friend of mine, thanks for waiting in line full of Asian people speaking strange languages to get the BBQ meat. It sure was worth it because it gave me time to roam around, drooled  while staring at other food, got my junk food and 10+ bag of super cheap instant udon noodles.

This place is like the a little Asian heaven. Has all my Asian food, a one stop shop, designated parking area, and it's clean!!!!
Think something like H-Mart (Korean) or Uwaji (Japanese) grocery store but for Chinese people. ^_^
AND it has one of the best Pho restaurant near by!

This supermarket is located inside a mall ...in Kent Washington.  Everytime I visit, I had to come here to shop.  They have an extensive collection of teas around the world, and I am a sucker for tea. I have a shelf full of it.  being a tea drinker , its the first thing I look for when I go to a certain place...I have all kinds from England,  China, India, Thailand,  Yemen....but there is one particular  kind  that I bought there a while back...The Green Tea with Roasted Brown Rice or Genmai Cha, a Japanese tea by Yamamotoyama.  It has a kind of nutty flavor....goes very well with milk...I just .love it....I bought the 2  90 pc pack left on the shelf, it will probably last me 3 months.....

They also have a bakery section and everything is baked on the premises...How can you resist the smell of hot bread...again I am also a sucker for hot breads...I can eat the whole hotsweet bread that just came out of the oven....no need for butter.....Delicious....

Aside from the usual vegetable, fruits, meat and seafoods section, they also have a little eatery inside...which means that when you are done doing your grocery shopping and you feel hungry... food is right there....so ..that's why I can't have enough of this place....everything comes in handy....

    it stinks...
    its crowded...
    AND I LOVE IT!!!

its everything i look for in an asian super market...besides the over priced Uwajimaya market down in china town, where else can you go to find almost ANY asian ingredient you need to make your meal authentic...

veggie prices are good and they always have a good fresh-esqe selection.
their imported drinks from around the world are amazing...both alcoholic and non-alcoholic...

when you walk down each of the crowded isles, you cant help but stop to see what there is stocked on the shelves...ive found things that i didnt  think were edible, but there they were, ready to be consumed...and yes, i have tried a few...

seafood selection is great too, live items like my fav: oysters...$17 for a fucking 20lb bag/box??? FUCK YEAH!!! dungenous fucking crab...YES PLEASE!!!...it was almost like walking through a sidewalk aquarium...except you eat these fish...[although some of the fish did look a lil beat up tho...] the shellfish selection was pretty impressive too...from manila clams to mussells to crayfish and and the bigboy lobsters, its all here...shit, i think i even saw some frogs and turtles!!! [which does make excellent soup, by the way...]

and my 2 favorite isles: the bakery/deli where you can buy some sponge cake and whole BBQ duck as well as asian deli items...
and the trinket isle, where you can get every asian/island cooking utensil you could ever think of...from rice cookers to woks to spam musubi molds...this place is the shit...and sometimes smells like it too!!!

get past that and its a great place to buy and try new and different things!!!

This Ranch 99 is disgusting. Seriously. I'm terrified of the meat and fish departments. On one visit I was thinking of purchasing a Mackerel for dinner, but ran the hell away after seeing the ragged, sad excuse for a Mackerel selection laying on dirty ass ice. Blech.

Another time I came, I bought a tube of Soon Tofu, but when I got home, I noticed some blue-green mold on the wrapping. Nasty.

The only reason I come here is because I love me some Lavender Green Tea teabags and Ube bread from the Filipino bakery. Yum, purple.

The best time to come here is on weekdays before it's going to close. Why? The rest of the time it's too difficult to turn into the parking lot or there frankly is no parking at The Great Wall Shopping Center. It's also very crowded and difficult to get around in the store.

I got a few deep fried fish here from the fish department. I suppose a lot of other are there for the same reason. Well, it took about 30 minutes and it was probably one of the most difficult experiences I've had trying to get a deep fried Tilapia.

It's a big store with a very wide range of varieties in different foods. Anything "asian" I want, I can find here. But the crowd is a bit to deal with. Check out lines aren't easy either.

Their deli and bakery are probably the best things in my opinion. A two item entree with a slice of a cake from the bakery makes for a nice lunch... Especially if you can make it back to work in time. =X

99 Ranch is a smaller version of H Mart that offers everything that you would need and expect:  general Asian grocery products, roasted bbq, to go buffet items, bakery, seafood, and meat butchery.

Basically.... 99 Ranch is Chinese based.... H Mart is Korean based,  Viet Wah is Vietnamese based and Uwajimaya is Japanese.  Fun facts!

99 Ranch is actually much bigger and cleaner than its ugly brother Viet Wah and the parking lot always seem to be packed.  Great convenience store anchor for the smaller shops in the Great Wall Asian Mall.

This review is in comparison to OTHER 99 Ranch markets. For a 99 Ranch Market, this is a very disappointing location :(

    1) There is about a 20% price premium for the same items that I can find in the Bay Area in California.

    2) The five-spice tofu that I bought "On Sale" turned out to be bad. Yes, it smelled sour and wreaked of sticky juice.

    3) Some vegetables were just old. Chinese eggplant and daikon, both Chinese food staples, were soft and uninviting. Brown onions were moldy.

Albeit it is due to the lower Asian population, and the lack of competition, compared to the Bay Area, but it is just not acceptable to provide lackluster produce that seem to be weeks, even months, old.

I remember when Ranch 99 used to be a big hit as the Asian grocery store to go to in the southend, without having to go to Chinatown, White Center, or Beacon Hill.  But ever since Seafood City at Southcenter opened up, this place has sure quieted down A LOT!  Which is exactly how I like shopping in general.  Their prices still beat Seafood City and Uwajimaya.

As Asian supermarkets go, 99 Ranch is one of the best in regards to selection. The location in Kent is good in that regard. I do also like that it is located in Great Wall Mall with a number of diverse ethnic shops and restaurants. It gives me an additional reason to visit this location rather than driving the 5 minutes to Uwajimaya or Asian Food Center.

As I mention the selection is great here, plenty of unique food items along with an in-house deli and bakery. I particularly like their selection of noodles and tofu products. Their sauce selection is also awesome. The meat and fish section is half and half for me. I get leery getting anything here, but I am thinking this is more like a stigma than anything.

The produce section however is hit and miss. Sometimes the produce I pick up is a little older than I like. If not for the noodle or tofu selection, I would probably just to go to HMart for my produce needs in which it is cheap and fresh.

99 Ranch in principle should get 4 stars, but this location is dingy which I have to drop a star for. However, I would recommend 99 Ranch for its selection and location if cleanliness is not as big of an issue as much as the goods.

How can you live without 99 Ranch?!

Where else you gonna get Chinese produce, off-the-beaten path spices, and super swell chili sauces.

My only complaint is that the two in Seattle are ass far from downtown, so it's quite the trek to get up here and back.

This location is pretty good and is close to tasty Szechuan foods. Bonus!

There are definitely better Ranch 99s around the country but this one is ok.  It's great mainly because it's close to Ikea but other than that nothing special.

The prices are ok but not great.  The produce and vegetables are kind of fresh and they selection is good.  Good place to get fresh seafood and meat.

As Donkey K mentioned, the parking is a bit crazy.  It's doesn't help when people don't really park within the lines.  My advice is to park a little further away from the front entrance.  It'll save you time looking for a spot and get you some exercise.  What's not to love?

99 Ranch was part of my Imperial Garden Seafood dim sum adventure I promised the roommate.  After walking around the Great Wall Mall we went into 99 Ranch and let me tell you I will NEVER be the same.  It's a cross between Uwajimaya, HT Oaktree, and the zoo, seriously.

They have every weird thing you ever want or need to cook right here in this very store.  And once you are done roaming the aisle and checking out their goods walk the perimeter, fresh produce, odd looking veggies, durian yep they got all that.  They also have plenty of live animals and some dead ones too.  Swimming in tanks and moving around I saw fish, geoduck, crab, snails, bull frogs oh wait the bull frogs were skinned and as they tossed them in their tray they looked like they were jumping for their life to get out of there headless and all, this my friends is when Mitzie H almost lost her cookies, I mean dim sum, yes there was almost a clean up needed by the bull frogs.  It was one of the grosses things ever, skinned, bleeding headless bull frogs, I'm just threw up a little bit in my mouth thinking about them right now.  I hurriedly move my way down the 'meat case' pigs tongue, pigs ears, pigs snouts, I bet if I had time I could have put a whole pig together back there, seriously what did I get myself into?!  I continue on and what do I find but some squid, right out there for you to play with, I mean buy that too made me a little queasy, ok right now I'll admit I don't have the strongest of stomachs and I should have stopped but I didn't I continued on my way though the zoo known as 99 Ranch.  Awe sweets, yum, they looked so pretty and delicious, my eyes love me again but not for long because down a little more are more dead animals!  Peking duck with their necks bent over the hook right next to the headless chickens roasting away in the roaster.  Actually this didn't cause any queasiness but it did bring up a question, why do the ducks get to keep their heads but the chickens don't?  Does it go along with "why did the chicken cross the road?"  I don't know and I'm not sure I want to.

Will I ever go back to 99 Ranch, no I don't think so the bull frogs have scared me for life and I can't believe that I just did my 400th review about dead, skinless, bleeding, headless bull frogs, in Kent no less, crap I should have planned something better sorry.

Been feeling a bit under the weather of late so I came here a few days ago to grab some non-"top ramen" ramen that you won't find outside asian markets.  The store was fairly clean, easy to navigate, and checkout was a breeze.  Prices were as expected.  White folks be warned, the aromas may be unfamiliar and different than your average grocery store but don't let that deter you.

Just a reminder for all shoppers. check the expiration date before you purchase. sometimes they have stuff on sales that are already expired or very close to the expiration date. don't let the good deal fool you. overall this is still an OK Asian supermarket.

I only go here if I know I'm not heading to chinatown anytime soon.  And I especially avoid the place like the plague on weekends.  The veggies are decent here though and they carry the basic asian ingredients but the place feels dirty and it can be smelly in the funky not so good way.  I do not buy any meat from here - it never looks too appetizing.  Either the color is off or the area is really stanky.  If you have to come on the weekends be prepared to elbow and push your way through all the other crazy asians and wait a while in line to get out of there too.

Another big supermarket.  Full with BBQ meat supply and a lot of asian snacks.

I have to go there at least once a month to stock up on meats, dumplings, snack cookies, and tofu.  Sure - you can find those things at your local QFC but I challenge you to find so many choices and comparable quality!

Parking is always infuriating.  Store is always jammed-pack.  But this is one of the best places to buy fresh seafood and asian vegetables and foods.  Very cheap.

Every sort of vegetable for every sexual perversion or stir fry imaginable. Smells like both. For those who might revel in day old sushi. None the less, its a bargain and they have goat and rabbit meat. Funky funky funky.

I live in Belltown, and there's nothing near the downtown area that is as clean or complete. I've been to better Chinese supermarkets in other cities, but this one meets my needs. I can buy fresh veggies (snow pea leaves, Ong/Tung Choy, winter melon), live fish, BBQ/roast pork, and the best sponge cake I've ever had from the bakery. There's also place in the mall that sells the best red bean boba, beef jerky, and Taiwanese sausages. Overall, it's a one stop shop for my Chinese cooking needs.
