Review from Chukwuma M.
Seeing as the 80's and 90's are my favorite decades in music, I enjoy listening to JOE FM whenever I'm driving. Even though I'm only 23, I can't stand what gets played on pop radio stations nowadays. For 2-3 months they play the same 6 songs over and over again, and it gets really old really fast.
That being said, my musical tastes are stuck in the past. JOE FM plays tons of old hits from when I was a kid and it makes me feel nostalgic every time I turn on the radio. They mostly play rock you'll hear a hip-hop classic occasionally.
If the sound of Ke$ha makes you want to kick puppies, then give this radio station a try. -

Joe FM isn't as lame as most of us probably think it is.
The station suffers from a dissociative identity disorder which explains their wide fluctuations across the Pop/Rock spectrum. Their symptoms include unexplainable, unnecessary forays into current rock, flashbacks to fetishistic '70s and '80s pop, and moments of functioning clarity where they showcase classic Rock & Roll. Joe FM exhibits a total distortion of all subjective time and taste. Imagine the Bear, Cap FM, and K-97 all rolled into one. Not a bad thing.
The DJ's are boring and unmemorable but at least they're not the sugar-fueled, attention seekers that pose naked on billboards so they can prove how zany and dangerous they apparently are. There's no equivalent to the Terry, Bill, and Brown show here.
I really thought that Joe would be background music for your dentist's waiting room. I expected a lot of Celine, Barbra, and Train. Not so. (Actually they did play Train. Ugh.) They play a lot more rock music than I expected, though it's all the same songs you'll hear on K-97 and the Bear. Their format isn't bad but it needs fine tuning.
Joe need to get rid of this image that they have of being your grandparents' radio station. They can start by turfing their unexciting, generic name ("Joe FM," seriously?) and lose the funeral home directors that they use for DJs.
Joe FM is like the friendly, good-natured person at your job that everyone likes but doesn't want to hang-out with.Listed in: Edmonton Radio Stations

Review from Jack G.

Joe FM is another radio station that plays older music but not too old, at least that's what I tell myself.
They cover the 90's era and some of the 80's. 90's music is what I grew up on and it's quite interesting to see how much music has changed. I have said this on some other reviews as well, but Joe FM really reminds me how music use to have individuality and personality. Some of the worst songs from the 90's would be considered great songs by todays standards.
All the current day artists sounds the same. You turn on one of the popular radio stations and 95% of the time you have no idea who the artist is or what song it might be because everything sounds the same. Joe FM is a nice escape.
