90 University is a dormitory residence for first-year students at the University of Ottawa, but the 20th floor has studio-style guest rooms and apartments for the long-term and short-term stays of other individuals, all year round.

90U is by far one of the best residences on campus. The front desk reception in the lobby is open 24-hours a day. There are laundry facilities on-site, as well as Le Rez Café on the ground floor, which sells sandwiches, snacks, and coffee, and study and student lounges on each floor. Each suite has two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, kitchen table, and chairs, as well as maid service. Each bedroom has a double bed, desk, chair, dresser, separately controlled air-conditioning, Internet, and even a TV with cable included! Some units are also designed especially for wheelchair accessibility.

The maid service is for the common areas, and the kitchen and bathroom in each suite, but it's not as great as it sounds. A friend of mine lived in 90U and it was pretty obvious that a dirty cloth was used to wipe everything, since there were foreign hairs on different surfaces, none of which belonged to my friend or his roommate. It's probably best to do your own cleaning.

The beds are the largest I've ever seen in any dorm room at either Ottawa U or Carleton. The only problem is that they take up most of the space in the room, and some people have trouble getting to their closets and opening their bedroom doors all the way.

Stayed here for 2 weeks while conducting research at Library and Archives Canada during the summer so I can't comment on the residence during the school year. This residence is everything you would expect a freshman residence to be. The rooms are small, poorly ventilated, and some (I stayed in 3 rooms over 2 weeks) are located alongside the highway, so prepare for some traffic noise in the evenings. (Ah, the good ol' days.) The hallways look like a scene in Left For Dead, but you're not going to sleep in the hallway, right? The bathrooms and kitchens (common) are clean, and that really is the most important thing.

Customer Service at the front desk is ...everything you would expect from a dorm front desk. Staff are rather indifferent, but like the taxis reponse of an amoeba, they will respond if gently provoked.

The upside -- and there is an upside -- is the price. You can't really beat the value, especially in such a convenient location just outside of downtown Ottawa.
