This place never disappoints. I was here for their monthly special dinner a few weeks back and just had to say if you love food, especially stuff you will not normally see, you have to go. For $40 we had ten courses:
jelly fish
crab
tofu skin wrapped spring rolls
seafood soup
chicken with shrimp chips
ginger squid
tangerine duck
fried buns and oyster beef
halibut
lobster with noodles
Lets just say the ginger squid was worth the $40, it was so perfectly cooked and so tasty. By the time the lobster course came out, all ten of us at the table were so full there were big chunks of lobster meat left over.
To top it off met some very interesting people, I was there with four people but you are seated at tables of ten and served family style, so you share both the food and stories during the meal. We had some world travelers among us who shared some amazing food stories. My idea of the perfect night, talking food while eating great food.
And as much as I rave about 9 + Nine, it is not to say I always love everything, I would probably never eat the jelly fish or tofu skin wrapped spring rolls again and another time I had a chicken dish I was not crazy about, but I love that the food challenges me, and even if I don't love one item, or even dislike it, I know there are going to bring me something out that blows me away and at least I can say I have tried whatever it is I did not like!

What a hidden gem! Don't let the 'chain-style' name fool you. This is one of the best chinese food meals I have had in the city. You know when a place is packed at 8pm at night that you are in for a treat.
If you are adventurous I definitely suggest the chicken strips and jellyfish! Probably one of the best salads I have had in awhile! I am actually considering ordering one for takeout for lunch tomorrow! -

We have eaten here twice recently. The first time we ordered off the menu, just by telling the chef to make us something with fish and vegetables. The food was delicious, well prepared from the freshest of ingredients. But we found it a little pricey, when we got the bill.
We went back again the other night and ordered a la carte. Two vegetable dishes and a bowlful of white rice to share. The food was delicious, and well prepared, just like before. The bill came to $28 for 2 with tax, and that is a more in my ballpark.
In both cases, we had the same waitress and she is very nice, and very good at serving her clientel. The room is attractively decorated, and the restaurant is well patronized by Chinese families, a sign that the food is authentic and popular.
We tried this restaurant on the basis of someone else's recommendation. I am happy to say now that we liked it very much!! -

This is the best Chinese restaurant in Halifax. The food is excellent; flavorful and freshly prepared. Try the Ginger Beef, General Hot Chicken and House Special Rice, which are my favorites.
This place is small and is almost always packed, so be patient when you go. Sometimes the service can be slow but I put this down to them being busy every time I have gone.
The portion size is large for the cost of each dish. I would bring 3 or 4 people to get a good taste of all the dishes you will want to order and not have to lug all kinds of leftovers home. That's not a bad thing here, but it would be a better use of the limited seating I guess.
The menu is small but of the dishes that I have tried so far they are all excellent. So I am ok with the small menu.
I don't know why others don't like this restaurant, it is superb. I can't wait to go again. -

We ordered four dishes for takout and the whole fare was rather disappointing. It wasn't bad, but it struggled and failed to be mediocre. The flavours were not very strong and differentiating between dishes, based on flavour alone, was not distinct. The vegetables were low quality leafy green veggies rather than denser (broccoli) snappy veggies and we were expecting a little more meat in the meat dishes. For the money, it was disappointing. Perhaps it was an off night, but we wouldn't try them again.

I found myself out in Clayton Park and decided to grab some take out from the Chinese restaurant everyone has been talking about. The strip mall setting is modest with about a dozen tables and the standard high backed chairs found in Chinese restaurants all over the HRM.
While the takeout menu had lots of options for the adventurous with dishes containing sharkfin and jellyfish, I stuck with the more conventional Dinner for Four for my household of conservative eaters (a four and a six year old). While the dining room only had about four tables, the food took about a half hour to make. Perhaps there were a lot of take out orders? During my wait, the place filled up with Chinese university students. A sign that this place serves authentic Chinese food.
The food (meat egg rolls, ginger beef, sweet and sour pork, cashew chicken, fresh vegetable mix and special rice) was all delicious. The special rice was fried rivce with a bit of everything: shrimp, egg, vegetables and some kind of meat. Everything was very fresh and piping hot. There aren't many places where you can get dinner for four including leftovers for $15/person.
I'm definitely planning on going again to sample some of their steamed buns and some of their noodle dishes. Apparently the chef will also prepare off the menu dishes. That would be a treat.

Ok so first of all I have never ate here so I can not speak to the food (although I have heard it is good from friends)
BUT what I can speak to is the service, I called one night last week to ask how late they were open, the lady who answered the phone seemed bothered that I was asking her questions, but she did let me know that they were open instill 10pm
10pm sounded perfect, until i pulled up at 9:25 and the door was locked (hours were clearly posted and they were supposed to be open till 10pm). I could see there was a waitress standing behind the checkout so I called and her response was that the owner said they could close early, no apology just that they were closed.
I do understand that things come up and it is not the end of the world but it is not great customer service, if they say they are open till 10 they should be open till 10, if something did come up and they had to close unexpectedly fine just treat your potential customers with more respect -
