The best independent rental shop in all of Toronto, this store located in Church & Wellesley ("Village"), has a great selection of titles when compared to the Rogers Plus store located down the street on Wellesley Street East.  With an adult section, a great selection of documentaries and independent films, and many used rentals on sale, you can't beat this place when looking for the right film to watch on any given night.

This place kicks the pants off of Rogers, Blockbuster or any other soon-to-be-bankrupt chain movie place (thanks Netflix!)

7-24, on the other hand, probably has a better selection than what most Canadian users can get on Netflix. If it's on a disc, they probably have a copy - you name it, everything from hot new releases to skin flicks, lots of TV on DVD, a decent selection on Blu-Ray, documentaries and indie films, queer cinema, Canadiana, British films, foreign... It can be confusing but they do make a pretty good effort at organizing everything by genre or theme and it's all alphabetized.

Just make sure to bring your rentals back on time. Taking discs out is inexpensive, but late fees will strike quickly if you are absent-minded.

Maybe the only video store I've ever been to with a bigger or more eclectic selection is (the tragically now defunct!) Videomatica in Vancouver. I can only hope that 7-24 does not suffer the same fate in the Village.

Hey Blockbuster? Screw you. You're way too McChainy for your own good. Sure, you get the job done but where's the satisfaction? Where's the love? I don't even believe you when you say "hello" to me upon entering - don't think I don't know that's a rule. *scoff*

Now 7/24? THERE'S a real video store. It smells like an old bookstore, the selection is intense and the bearded Jack-Black-In-High-Fidelity employees will humour you.

You want a doc? Check out that gargantuan doc section. British comedy? Ka-BAM, to the right. Criterion? Voila - even a kabillion different movies about Yukio Mishima. It's worth just browsing and looking for amazing post-it notes written by the staff.

They don't make 'em like this anymore. Yet another reason to love The Village.

Best Friend Edit: "5 stars?! They charge full late fees if you don't return  at like, the exact same hour and minute that you rented in the first place. There's no grace period. They should get a star off for that."

This movie store is one of the thing I miss about not living in the village! It's freaking awesome.

There isn't much to add that hasn't already been said.
    1) Amazing selection of queer films and TV on DVD (and they stock up fast)
    2) Great prices and great mid-week specials
    3) Amazing selection of docs and indie flicks
    4) They even have a great selection of all major hits and back catalogs of TV on DVD (better than most Blockbusters)
    5) Great deals on used DVDs and they often have DVDs for sale here I haven't seen elsewhere.

Oh, and they're an indie shop which is a nice bonus!

I love independent video stores sticking it to Blockbuster and Rogers!

This place is great, it has new releases, albeit in limited quantity, some gems that are hard to find, and they cater to the area with an adult section and gay section.

The rentals are $4 even for new release - a great deal in my mind considering the bigger places charge more for new releases then old favourites.

Check them out if you're in the area.

    1. It's not a massive retail chain outlet. and thus. has best selection of movies ever.

    2. All movies, new, old, criterion, british, anything and everything this place has.

    3. what makes it the best now, even more, is the fact that they have a super collection of Blu Ray DVDs! best.

Staff are knowledgeable, and this place has basically anymovie that was ever made.

So rent from here. because i do.

In my working career I have spent a disproportionate amount of time working at video stores. This is not by accident, I love being entertained by flashing images on a screen.  The first place I worked at was a little independent, run by a rapidly balding Italian who took pity on me when I as a sixteen year old went in with a tie on and asked for a job.  He had an incredible selection and almost anything in the store was for sale.  Then one of the two big boys moved in just up the street, and slowly wore him down.  Then I worked for the competition, their selection was terrible and they sold anything that hadn't rented in 4 weeks.  This long winded lead up is just to say that a good video store is a treasure, they are dying off and 7-24 is the best I've ever seen. They have everything, honestly everything. They have a documentary section, a BBC section (not just a tv section where the first dvd in a season is ALWAYS out), they have a staff who watch movies and can recommend things.  This is the kind of place where everyone should get their movies, I highly recommend this store because it is a diamond in the rough, even if it shouldn't be.
