While apartment-hunting after living in res during my first year at Carleton, I checked out 50 Laurier because it just looked so nice, and I wanted to get an idea of their amenities and prices.
The building has dry-cleaning services, 24-hour concierge, security, a pool and sauna, a fitness and exercise room, and BBQs. Each room also has en-suite laundry, granite countertops, and central air - everything you would expect from more upscale living. They also offer rooms for extended stay, which are particularly popular among business people.
Well, this place is definitely not for students, at least ones that are on any sort of budget or only have a moderate-paying job. When they gave us a quote, it was about $2000 a month for a one-bedroom, which isn't overly huge, either. There aren't any condo fees, the building is beautiful, and the prime location is more than convenient, but you can definitely shop around for more reasonably priced places to live. There are other comparable luxury, high-rise apartments in downtown Ottawa for less money.
