I like to play a little game when I rent movies from 2 For 1 - even when I know the name of the movie I'm looking for, I approach one of the two super knowledgeable owners and try to see if they can figure out what the hell I'm talking about. There's the one guy who's older, Polish and really Mr. Dress Up-y and the other younger guy and they both know everything. I wish I could italicize that last word. It usually goes something like this:
ME: "Have you ever heard of this movie that has the guy from that old TV show in the 90s that lasted less than one season called 'Christy', and he kind of looks like the bad guy in 'Dead Poet's Society'...or maybe it was 'School Ties'? You know, he was raised on an egg farm, I think. And it also has that gnome-ish mom character who was in the Faerie Tale Theatre version of 'Thumbelina' and is on that horrible show 'Two And A Half Men' now. Any ideas?"
OWNER: "Oh, you're thinking of 'For Keeps'! I love that scene where the dad's throwing out the mattress and he can't get a grip on it cause it's got no handles. Third aisle [I start walking]...keep going...more...OK, top shelf, about a third of the way in. Got it?"
Boom.
On Tuesdays they have a special for $4 - two non-new releases that you can keep for four or five nights (I can't remember which, since I never return my movies on time. WHOOPS!). As Luke A. said, it's saying a lot when a mom 'n pop video rental shop practically next door to Blockbuster manages to outshine it and come out on top in an era of http://Zip.ca and Netflix. How great is this video store? Let me put it this way: they'd been three doors up the street from Blockbuster for about fifteen years, and they're still in business. And now the Blockbuster is gone.
For a small store, they've got a very comprehensive collection of older releases, and the guys who work here know their stuff inside-out. More than once they've recommended a great movie for me that I hadn't heard about (and I know movies, especially older ones, pretty well).
They've got a good stock of new releases, too; the good stuff tends to go fast on weekends, so get new movies on Tuesdays, when there's a special deal. -

When you walk into 2 for 1 videos the shop feels a little run down but don't let this deter you. The video selection is fantastic. The owners are super nice and they know their stuff! This has become my go to video shop!
