Taking over Martha's location on south Granville, 18KARAT opens their first retail store. Initially a wholesaler to the design community, they now offer a great opportunity for the local community to have access to limited editions of modern organic accessories. Traveling to New York to source product, it is refreshing to see a local retail concept like 18KARAT to represent themselves in the market similar in caliber to high-end showrooms in Manhattan. Excellent value for unique statement pieces to compliment an interior. Where presentation is carefully thought out right through from the details of products, to the "statement" merchandising and of course - amazing personable service. I am truly impressed by this great new addition to the South Granville design shop ... NEXT REQUEST - when will we have a a retailer that specializes in international modern minimal accessories?
The only disappointment I have is seeing 18Karat products sold everywhere including less sophisticated retailers which unfortunately reflects a less high end branding image for their products. Although this decision makes sense in the business $$$ sense, it's unfortunate that what once was exclusive to designers is now sold at many different retailers where some don't necessarily showcase their product in the best light. Perhaps selecting certain collections exclusive to the showroom versus what is sold to other competing retailers would reflect a better concept of value.
Accessories are the key element to completing an interior, they don't necessarily have to be expensive, its how they are grouped and paired with existing furniture, colour scheme and interior placement. It just means that in key areas where there is a focal point the process of selection is different.
Despite this one negative point mentioned, overall I give top positive points to 18 Karat, it's been amazing to see how they have grown over the years as a company and Canadian retailer. The art direction, photography, styling, purchasing, merchandising, branding & marketing campaign are all successfully executed.
I'm excited to learn about the recent introduction of a furniture collaboration with one of my favorite local BC architects Peter Cardew, simple, timeless pieces that work well for the modern west coast interior. 18 Karat has a great selection of large scaled planters and outdoor accessories as well, excellent for any modern outdoor spaces. -

For those lazy weekend afternoons, holiday/gift shopping, or times when I feel like my abode needs a touch of that "'lil sumtin sumtin", this is where I roll.
Do not be intimidated by the store front and just walk in because you'll discover that the space is a little gallery in itself, and find that there is more places to wander (downstairs and outside). Your experience there will be like unwrapping a beautiful gift. So much wonder and surprise!
You may think it will be unaffordable, but the secret is out--IT IS! Doesn't matter how tall or small your budget is, you'll find something in your price range to decorate your space with or to buy someone a gift for. -

I luv going in here. I have to give a shout out to who ever does thier in store displays. They are always well thot out and graphic in nature... which I luv. I was in here the other day, to check out their wares. They have the coolest aesthetic going right now, I guess the designer was inspired by the west coast. Modern, simple, organic.
They have recently released their first furniture collection and I have to say I luv it. The colours are sophisticated and the furniture is well tailored, with clean lines. The scale of the pieces are excellent for both house or condo dwellers. Now that I own my very first patio I will be calling on these guys next spring to outfit my outdoor living space. -

I may be a little bias as I used to work in this store, but every one of my friends and family have always agreed that the goods stocked by 18 Karat are simply gorgeous. In fact my step-mum, who came to Vancouver all the way from Australia, loved a vase so much that she took it home with her. She then had me ship more goods to her after she had left!
Primarily a homewares store, 18 Karat stocks vases, candleholders, boxes, pots, kitchenware, furniture, rugs, pillows, and more. They used to have a line of jewellery, but I'm not sure that this is available anymore and they also have some fabulous books and chic modern furniture.
This store is renown for their large pieces but they also have some great small finds. And the prices are surprisingly reasonable, not what you'd expect from such up-market and beautiful looking pieces. -

Minimal, modern with a touch of nature. When you walk into 18 Karat Home Store, you are immediately in sensory overload. Located in Vancouver's South Granville shopping neighbourhood, their collections range from textiles, fashion accessories for home and yummy products for the body. What I love about the store the most? It changes it's concept and face every 6 months, like the seasons.
Stop in to see their entire collection and take in the retail experience or shop on line from the comfort of your own home.

That rating should read "Yay! I was a fan". I heard they have just gone out of business, the whole company, not just this retail outlet . . . :(

Say you're looking for a statement piece, something like a 4 foot tall vase for that corner of your room that needs filling; you'd do well to come to 18 Karat. This home decor store tends to have a collection of large pieces that manage to take up space without being overly grandiose. On their website they call themselves a "design Mecca" for those who are looking for affordable, modern and simple piece, and as far as being modern and simple goes, this store does deliver. Sometimes I feel like the pieces here are a bit too neutral (lots and lots of earth tones), but what I do like about 18 Karat is that many of their products have a very organic look as if they've been made of stone or bamboo. I would definitely come here if I were looking for a large jug or carpet or vase to fill a particular space in my house, but don't come here looking for pieces that are colourful or uniquely detailed.
