Yoga...sigh. Something I actually really enjoy, but hate the atmosphere. Yoga enthusiasts tend to be slightly judgmental, overly serious and sometimes just plain nuts. I've tried many different studios and with the exception of a few hot yoga attempts (where you are so sweaty and gross no one cares) I've had some pretty bad experiences.
108 Yoga is the exception, if I could, I would give it 4.5 stars. The teachers are relaxed and most encourage a friendly, easy and no pressure atmosphere where you feel challenged without feeling intimidated. You do not need to own an entire Lulu wardrobe to get in through the door. I've seen students in reasonably priced yoga wear and some even in their favourite gym t shirts and sweat pants. (One in particular, wore a pub crawl tee and is now my hero!) You make a fairly obvious, incredibly embarrassing mistake? No worries. There will be no dirty looks, no exaggerated sighs and no teachers telling you to be quiet and stop being disruptive. In fact, feel free to laugh at yourself - you won't be shushed.
Other great things: you can sign up for classes online (although not all the descriptions are accurate) and can create reoccurring appointments if you like a class in particular. They also provide you with blankets, blocks, stretch bands and mats free of charge. The location is also prime - right downtown!
Issues: It is a small studio. If you are taking the popular classes (like Flow) show up early and be prepared to get into your neighbours personal space. There's also only a changing station in the back and no bathroom - which means using the Brewery Market bathroom.
Bottom line: If you want to take yoga for fitness and relaxation without all the pressure to be perfect (in both appearance and practice) this place is for you. If, however you are the kind of student who craves the intense discipline and strict codes of conduct, please stay away - I'd like to keep this place as it is. -

Let me start by saying I have not practiced yoga in more than 5 years. I saw a groupon for 108 Yoga and as it was the beginning of a new year I thought... why not?! A girlfriend and I sucked it up, dusted off our yoga mats and signed up for a class.
As there are many very serious (and intimidating) people practicing yoga, we were a little nervous. When we arrived, the atmosphere was very welcoming, and the instructors were friendly. There classes offer a wide range of levels and they encourage people to practice at their own pace.
We've tried out 2 classes already and are energized and feel good after them. I would highly recommend the studio for people at all levels. -

108 is a great little studio that is certainly a contender for my favourite after the closure of the Yoga Loft. The space is somehow both airy and cosy and the perfect temperature for a comfortable practice.
There are several roomy change rooms at the back and lots of space out front to stash your stuff. One nice thing is that 108 lends out mats for free during their classes. This and the location right downtown (about a block from my office) makes it ideal for lunchtime and after-work classes.
They have a good selection of classes that rotate through the time slots, so you're almost certain to find an option you want that works for you. I've enjoyed all the instructors I've worked with, and found them more than accommodating for people at all levels of practice, fitness and health.
They seem to regularly offer Groupons or Teambuys, so there's a good chance you can get a deal on a trial of the studio.Listed in: Downtown Gems

I've been to lots of downtown yoga studios and I think these folks focus on the lunch time classes, they're the best. Over the week they have a great variety of classes, teachers and age groups that's the niche they've carved out. As a whole their style is more individualized than being extremely athletic and regimented. What bugs me is it's not a quiet studio (there's no quiet time before/after class) and you have to use the Brewery Market restrooms.

I started out taking yoga classes here because of a Groupon. This studio is great and the class sizes are often quite small which is a nice change from some place like Moksha where they can sometimes pack 50 people in one room. The instructors are all incredibly knowledgeable and provide a good selection of classes.

108 is a lovely spot to catch a stretch. Located within the Brewery Market, its studio space visually soothes with serene aesthetic, ultimately enhancing a general feel-good mantra for mind, body, soul.
The variety of instructors seem to provide engaged and challenging classes. Whether yogis are beginners or advanced, anyone with an interest can surely find a fit with the variety of different classes. With a morning to night schedule of classes to choose from, students have lots of option, and can pick from any of the following classes: Awake, Waist Management, Strength and Length, Breath and Flow, Power, Explore, and Freedom. This assortment of classes offers a switch up to keep things fresh, but remains consistent in their attention to mind and breath.
Various workshops are always on the go, so its a great idea to check in. The prices seem to be on par with other Halifax studios, although they do seem to offer some truly great unlimited packages. (Depending on how much you go, it can be a great deal.) Pilates also runs through 108, and the various workshops explore different types of body movement exercises as well.
I'd advise checking out the website, or even popping in for a look. This is a gorgeous studio with well fused classes and a great energy. Get bent at 108, they hardly disappoint.Listed in: Namaste

108 Yoga studio is a fairly new and beautifully decorated studio in the Brewery Market Place.
108 Yoga has a series of interesting sounding classes as well as private workshops. The classes take place in varying forms such as: Awake, Waist Management, Ashtanga and Release. There are also workshops ranging in type from reasonably priced 2 hour partner yoga session on Valentine's ($35/couple) to month long pilates sessions (1 hour long session/week at $54)
Overall, 108 Yoga looks like a beautiful studio and has excellent package deals. The membership costs are a little on the steep side and on par with studios such as Moksha.
