If you see an opportunity to get 250 lbs on removal services for $35, DON'T DO IT!
I had been holding on to my voucher for a few months and finally made some time to get this done. I didn't have too much stuff so made an appointment and agreed to leave everything on the driveway for a date 3 days later. I hauled my junk to the driveway (skeet driveway as i called it with the mess of junk) and left it there. When I got home, to my surprise, everything was still sitting there. I checked my messages and was told their truck wasn't able to make it that day. Good thing I didn't wait at home!!!
I ended up rescheduling for the following week, mentioning that Wednesday will work as I will be out of the country from Saturday - Tuesday. They set it up, I went on vacation and when I came home, my BBQ was gone. This was part of the junk but everything else was in the garage as I didn't want to leave it all out for 4 days. I didn't really think anything of it until I got to work the next day and saw an invoice for their pickup on Tuesday. I checked my phone (which I didn't use on my trip to the States) and sure enough, they were nice enough to move my appointment up a day and then went ahead with it even though I didn't confirm.
This is where it gets fun. I called that day and was told that since it was a voucher, a Manager would have to deal with it to re-activate it and set up another appointment. That was okay so the conversation ended. I called again the next day as I hadn't heard back yet, same response, was still okay with me. Called back Friday, same response only this time she put an extra note in for the manager so they would see it in the queue. I was a little frustrated but just accepted it. CALLED BACK ON TUESDAY, without hearing from them AGAIN! This time, the agent said the Manager has to reschedule but that since it has been almost a week that she can do it, wipe the voucher back to zero so it can be used again. Thanks for nothing, apparently they could have done it all along (meanwhile my car is sitting on the driveway in the cold and my junk is sitting in the nice warm garage).
This time, I leave everything out and they came by. I happened to be sick that day so was at home. I went out to see if they needed a hand and the driver was actually quite courteous and said they are good. I go back upstairs and then see him taking a sledgehammer to one of the items, a dresser right on my driveway. Wood flying everywhere, he picked up the large pieces and left. I ended up sweeping up since there were wood pieces everywhere and a few sharp nails that were obviously from the dresser. Thanks for not doing that in your crappy moving truck that was pretty much empty!!!
Never again, would rather carry each item on my back to the dump next time. -

When 1- 888- JUNK- VAN used "junk" in their name, I assumed it was in reference to the stuff they were removing. Turns out it's better used as a description of their level of service.
I made an apointment over a week before the date of removal, and was told that the trucks get sent out at 8 am, so when my apointment was booked for "between 8 and 9", so I could still leave in time to get to work, I was told I would be the first apointment of the day. Pretty hard to screw up scheduling on that, wouldn't ya think? I was also told I would get a call from the drivers 30 minutes before arrival to let me know when they'd get here. So, logically, this call should arrive between 7:30 and 8:30, right? Not so. Not only did they not show up by 9... I still hadn't recieved THE CALL. I phoned the service center back at quarter to 9 to check up on the appointment, she confirmed that it's in the schedule and that she had all the right information, and said she'd send the drivers a message and have them call me right back. 20 minutes pass, no call. Their entire window for the appointment had now past, so I called the service center back again and am greeted with "1-888-JUNK-VAN, can I call you right back please?" and, because I'm a nice guy, I reluctantly agreed... 9:15, the service center calls she back, and says she's going to call the driver while I remain on the line. The response I get, "He's not answering so he must be at the dump unloading." - That's right, they can't answer a call from what was supposed to be their first job of the day because they're unloading. REAL PROFESSIONAL. She says, and I quote, "I'm going to make it my personal priority to keep calling and calling until he picks up and I'll get him to call you right away." Meanwhile, I have to leave for work by 10.
Being over-booked is one thing, still rather unprofessional, but for a company whose website proudly boasts the notions of calling ahead, and putting customer service first, you'd think they could make a phone call to let you know what's going on.
I didn't end up hearing from the driver until approximately 9:35 to tell me they weren't going to make it that day, and the best thing he could do was book me an appointment in the same time window the next day. If I hadn't already paid for the service, I would have told them where to stick their appointment book.
The next day I made sure to stress that I had to leave by 10, so they had better be there by then. I was told I was the first appointment of the day so, given that their hours say they start at 8, I figured 8:30-9:00 at the LATEST for this 30 minute phone call, right? ...so 9:30 rolls around, still no word, so I call the service center AGAIN. This time I'm left on hold while they call the driver. After being on hold for 10 minutes, the call gets dropped. I call back again, no answer, and it goes straight to voicemail. At this point I leave a very angry message about their lack of professionalism and... low and behold, 5 minutes later I get a call from the driver saying they were trying to put my address in their GPS but something must have been spelled wrong by the service center in my address.
....How you spell "5th Avenue" wrong, I have no idea.
Anyway, once that got corrected everything was great. The guys were there within 10 minutes, were very fast about removing the stuff, and were very courteous the whole time they were there. It's just disgusting that I had to wait more than 24 hours after the end of the previous appointment window, call the service center 6 times, and deal with so much bullshit for an appointment I booked and paid for over a week in advance.
I'm glad I very seldom find myself in need of a service like this (this is the first time in my life, in fact) because I certainly wouldn't use these guys again, and am now very wary of trusting other such companies in the future, either.1 Previous Review: Show all »
