You get two stores for the price of one, here--an olives/olive oil shop + a spice shop. The selection of olive oils is impressive, and all, but the real reason to visit has to do with the herbs, seasonings, and spices, namely Ethné and Philippe de Vienne's extraordinary line of "épices de cru." The name's no gimmick. Their line of spices are carefully sourced around the world by the owners themselves, and they're of the very highest order. Seriously, Olives & Épices may be the very best spice shop in North America--it's certainly in the running. Even spices as commonplace as cumin can be extraordinary here (don't believe me? try their Syrian cumin). There's no question that these "épices de cru" are also generally much more expensive than the ones you find in supermarkets and bulk stores, but the quality is incomparable, and a little goes a long way.
